I get really tired of women’s reviews where they say they didn’t like the main female character because of silly things - she didn’t forgive the mmc fast enough, she wasn’t the perfect friend/sister/employee/whatever… and it’s usually just internalized misogyny. However….

Nesta is a horrible person. She was horribly selfish at the very beginning of book 1, she was horribly mean before her trauma, she was horrible during her trauma, and she’s horrible and cruel to the people who love her the most throughout this book. She hurts them where she knows it will count. I know this is her redemption arc, but I’m not enjoying reading about all the ways she can be cruel to her sisters, who are angels for not telling Nesta to STFU every time she says something unbearably hurtful. Nesta doesn’t just cross the line, she lives on the other side of it and never apologizes. So I’m 1/3 of the way through a 700+ page book, and I’m so sick of her shit I don’t really want to read any more. I’m seriously considering skipping all the stuff about her and just reading the stuff about the possible pending war.

Update: so I finished it. Nesta is still pretty awful to her sisters and people who cared about her before her trauma until nearly the end of the book. She heals, (this is not a spoiler, it’s a redemption story so we knew it was coming) she gets nicer, and everything is roses again. But it was miserable for me to read.

It feels like I should say it’s complicated if the characters are loveable because it’s hard to love someone who doesn’t love themselves. BUT Nesta is such a relatable character and her development is so beautiful it made me cry too many times. <spoiler kinda> Her friendship she found with the valkyries will never not make me emotional. Her love that she lets herself feel with Cassian is great too but oh my god I love the found family aspect of this book way more than feyre and Rhys and their inner circle. Maybe because they’re just strong women who do not care about the opinions of men lol much like myself.<end spoiler> Keep climbing the mountain my love.

I really enjoyed this one a lot. I think Nesta being a more flawed POV character made things more interesting, and I identified with her a lot. I found a lot of hope and inspiration in her growth and enjoyed being a part of her journey.

It wraps up nicely, while still leaving big bad out there, so I do hope there will be more to come, presumably from Elain's POV.

I was very skeptical about this book but I ended up loving it so much. Nesta is a badass bitch and I love her. Cassian is also pretty amazing and deserves everything. I’m so happy Ferye and Rhys got to have the baby they always dreamt of having. He also sounds freaking adorable. And I really like the name!!!
