... What did I just read?

I honestly don't know how to react to that. Like, I kinda actually liked the first half (because thank god for the return of violence and things that kind of resemble plot points) and then everything was awful after that. Also, Patterson does realize that a) this is a kid's book and b) he used way too much of the plot from When the Wind Blows/The Lake House books (aka the first set of books about six mutant bird kids called the flock with a leader named Max) in this book. WAY too much. And I'm not saying it was terrible, although I was literally pulling my hair out for the last 150 pages or so, but just... Really?!

The good thing I got out of this: it's finally over and I never have to go near Maximum Ride again. I'll just keep rereading the first three books and pretend they kept on kicking butt after STWAOES.

Also, can we talk about how Max had been told that she was destined to save the world for the entire series and then she does. Do you want to know how?

She gets pregnant.

Not only is this wrong because she's fifteen, but also for the fact that this is the second time a child has gotten pregnant in Patterson's Max-the-bird-girl books (which also include Where the Wind Blows and The Lake House). I mean, Other Max was about twelve years old when she laid eggs.

Patterson, girls are more than baby makers.

Also, it really worries me that he keeps writing girls like both of the Maxes getting pregnant so young. Maximum Ride was my role model as a kid. I looked up to her, wanted to be her, took up martial arts partially because of her. He shouldn't be sending the message that kids who are eleven or fifteen should be having sex.

Sex isn't the worst thing in the world, of course. Plenty of people do it. But encouraging kids less than sixteen years old to not only have sex but also get pregnant is dangerous.

That doesn't even touch how pissed I am that Max was this completely strong, amazing female character who could fight better than anyone in the series, and she didn't get the chance to fight in the final battle the way she should have because she was pregnant. But let's not go there.

This book is even more life changing than fang. I cried then smiled than cried than was so overjoyed. Most people think the last book is the worst or a let down but Forever is now my favorite Max book.

If Fang has actually died I was gonna rate this 1 star, just saying. On another note, since that thankfully didn’t happen. I did enjoy reading this, but I didn’t feel like it was super necessary, James Patterson couldn’t easily finished everything off in the last book and I would’ve been super happy. My poor bird babies deserve a break, and they finally got one at the end- yay!

So lets start with... I'm glad that James Patterson wrote this book. My opinions about it does not change the fact that so many problems left with Nevermore were resolved as well as they could be in this book. But still... I just didn't like it. I only read this book because I was a loyal Maximum Ride fan, and I basically grew up with it in my childhood. Now that I'm older with more reading experience, all I can see are immense problems with this series. Maybe it's just me... but I don't know.
To be honest, this book/series was a mess... if you really read it and notice the details. I feel like the plot of this book was thought of overnight, and James Patterson decided to put 400 pages in one sitting. While I was reading it all I could think was, "can this book finish faster?" The plot was so predictable and frustrating, and it was just.

Spoiler Okay, so it seems that throughout this entire series, whenever there was a need for a villain character, Jeb would come into play, and just show up out of nowhere. It didn't matter how many fricken times he already died, he would come back to life just to be the main antagonist again.

Also, it seemed like James Patterson didn't take death seriously. I mean, if someone died, they was no possibility of them staying dead. Like when Dylan "died" in this book I literally rolled my eyes and said "yeah right". Also, I knew there was no way the flock was actually dead. Even when Fang "died", there was of course a loophole to bring him to life. This is what frustrates me the most... Obviously I don't want them dead, but when you say that someone's dead, can you at least keep them dead?

And don't even get me started with Max and Fang's baby. You're kidding right?? Okay so we got a completely vague description of Fang and Max "doing the do", and I don't even think James Patterson could make it more ill-defined if he tried to. I actually read a spoiler about Max being pregnant with Fang's baby, but i thought it was a joke. and doesn't it bother ANYONE that both Max and Fang were barely fifteen? I mean I guess they really did find their soul mate, but I just thought it was a joke. Idk.

I feel like this book was just an unnecessary installment into this series, and I feel like James Patterson could've fixed up the problems with Nevermore in maybe 100 pages and just released a short story. Everyone seems to be praising this book, and it seems that I'm the only one with an unpopular opinion...

Felt like this series had so much more potential... but yeah.

I was really disappointed with this book. The main problem I had was the cliche ending and the cliche ya plot points. I do not feel that this book was a good continuation of the series. Admittedly, the series has been a mess since book 5 or so but this was by far the worst one. Below are some specific problems I had (SPOILERS BELOW!!):

The flock break up: I love the flock, so seeing them all alone and Max missing them all was heartbreaking.

The death of the flock: Ok so every time someone "died" it felt fake. I mean I was sad but there was a part of me that just knew they were not actually dead.

Fangs Death: This was so unnecessary. It was not helpful to the plot at all as the other "deaths" were. It just caused max pain and it didn't even last.

Dylan's Death: So after being thought dead for most of the book he wasn't even dead??!? And then he did die?!?!! Like it was too repetitive and I just don't see why it was needed.

The writing: this book had really bad writing. Normally James as good writing. Maybe it's just because I haven't read him in a while but I didn't remember so cheesy.

THE PREGNANCY: I mean come on!! I wanted dang andax together since book 1, but she was FIFTEEN!! That's just gross and no!

Overall not James' best book.

All I'm going to say, is that if you come across any of the Maximum Ride books in the library or the bookstore, you drop everything and you get your hands on that book!

James Patterson's Maximum Ride absolutely mind blowing! It leaves you wanting more, it leaves you with a nagging need to join the flock.

You encounter the most exciting and unexpected twists and turns, you are bombarded with the most inspirational stories and notes by the flock that just makes you want to cry. You are engaged the instant you learn about the adventure that you are just about to have.

In this series you learn a lot of things.
The learn to value the importance of family.
You learn the importance of trust.
You learn about what it takes to be a leader. About the sacrifices and risk that you have to take.
You learn the most painstaking beautiful things.

This entire series is a solid 5/5.
It is a massive inspiration to young people, and if you ever get the chance to read this Maximum Ride series, you will put the world behind for the flock.

This is farewell Max,
But keep calm
And join the Flock.

This is my favourite book of the series. I lost a little but of interest after The Final Warning (#4) but continued reading. Forever is full of things I didn't expect and is so wonderfully written. It's the perfect way to end a series. If there was one thing I could say to JP, it'd be "thank you."

WTFFF
ok so if you read my review on the first book you know this is my all time favorite series. Ive read the series a crazy amount of times and love them dearly. I first read the series around 2011-2012 so at that point most of the books had been released exept for Nevermore. I pretty much spent my 6-7th grade years reading these books over and over.

Fastfoward to 2015 and I hadnt done much reading and was not really up to date on new books and book releases. So one day I was walking around traget and saw this book and freaked!
This book sat on my shelf for a couple years. Until this year (2019) I finnally opened it up and read it. I truly do not know why it took me so long to read it but I am happy I finnally did. You would think.. when an unexpected book in your favorite series is released you would jump right into it..but for some reason that wasn't me.
I also reread the entire series before reading this one so it helped with my experience when reading this book.

I enjoyed the book as a whole but there were a few things I did not like.
The story was a repeat of the previous books.. it centers them fighting this villian and what not. Though it was still enjoyable there was no distinct difference from the previous ones. So for that I gave the book a 4/5 stars. I loved reading about my favorite flock again but don't really think this book was necessary.
