The best of Patrick Ness...beautifully told with just the right amount of humor and fantasy to keep you reading well into the night.
I was very amused (in a good way) by this book. It was a fun parody of YA, without being too over the top. I have to admit I didn't get some of the references, but I don't think that matters. It's a story about the real people, the people who only sparkle in the sunlight after you get to know them.
I liked this book.
It was really interesting how there were two different stories going on at the same time. I found it fun that each chapter updated us with the events of the “indie” kids. As for the main character, I found myself becoming annoyed with him at times but I understood where he was coming from. Being a psychology major, it was nice to see anxiety with compulsive tendencies be represented nicely. Henna became annoying. The ending was nice.

Really clever, a lot of fun, and a few really good moments that helped make non indie kid life make a little more sense.
I really, really wanted to absolutely love this book. I mean [a:Patrick Ness|370361|Patrick Ness|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1244216486p2/370361.jpg] and a story about those left to the sidelines!?!?!?! But . . . I'm just not feeling it. I love the idea and I love his other work but I guess that wasn't enough for it to come together. I appreciated all the complexities of the characters, it just didn't come together, at least not for me. However, this disappointment in no way even chips away at my faith and love in Ness' work, I will be ready and awaiting his next book.
I really enjoyed this book, since it provided an atypical perspective of an impending disaster. Rather than the plot being driven by the strange happenings in the small town and the indie kids destined to save humanity from those threats, this book focuses on the "outsiders"; ordinary kids who are just trying to navigate their friendships, families, feelings, and future lives.
Really good if you don’t think of it as fantasy. It’s called The Rest of Us Just Live Here for a reason.
I love when I read a book I didn't know that I needed. THE REST OF US JUST LIVE HERE is satirical and funny while touching on important issues of anxiety and mental health. It's a great slice of life that's surrounded by a fantastical tale, giving the reader a view of what it's like to be the background character in a Chosen One story.
