This was a pretty short fantasy novel. I'm sorry to say, it's not one of Charbonneau's best works. Need and The Testing were marvelous, which is perhaps why I came into this with high expectations. The novel starts out quite slow but I staggered through it. Things start picking up once the trials begin, the pace speeds up insanely. But my three-star rating is due to the fact of the lack of details and care in the second half of the novel. Some of the events occurring, some of the character's sudden change in alliance seems inorganic and fake. Many events were skimmed over and the ending was just...meh. Nevertheless, I shall be reading the sequel.

Too slow and boring.

i had previously read the Testing trilogy from this author and loved it so i wanted to try another book from her

this one was really good too. i resonated with Carys and her desire to protect her brother at all costs.

i also loved Lord Errik but i can’t decide if he should be trusted or not

I really enjoyed this book! I didn't think I was going to end up liking it. But I really did! It wasn't a five star read for me, though. If it were more fast paced, it would have been.

There are some other things that are making me rate this a four star instead of five. There were just so many things left unanswered. I'm sure they will be answered in the next book but I wanted to know them now.

I liked how the idea of this book was executed. I liked that there were actually trials for Carys and Andreus to see who will rule Eden. I loved all the betrayal in this book. I loved all the twists and turns.

This book did have a slow start. But once it picked up, I didn't want to stop reading. This book gave me a mixture of characters from which I could love and hate. I loved the variety of good and bad that was included. It had me aggravated at some characters for being so blind. It had me hurting for some characters that did nothing but good and were punished anyway.

I'm excited to see what happens in the next book, Eden Conquered.

4/5 Stars

I honestly don’t know how to feel about this book. I was so bored for the first hundred page that I thought about dnf-ing it (dnf: did not finish). But there were a few parts of the book that I really did enjoy.

One on the issues that I have with this book is that some of the chapters seem unfinished. Random things just happen, and I’m just sitting there thinking “How are you?”, “Where did you come from?”, or “One chapter your hair was dark now it blonde, what?”. Something else that bugs me are the Elders names. I swear that I can’t remember any of there names. I guess they’re like the villain but there are so many of them that I can’t remember which one is good or evil.

At times this book frustrated me. I almost started yelling at it. But that doesn’t mean that it was all bad. I may read the sequel just so I know what happens. But with the weird romance that came out of nowhere and the sometimes sloppy writing, I doubt that I’ll pick up the sequel anytime soon.

One late thing, how the hell do you pronounce Xhelozi!

What drew me in about this book was the cover. But from the first page the book was exciting, and the twists and turns that came with the plot and the characters was one I enjoyed thoroughly. The characters with a *few* exceptions were characters that were easy to love even when you were frustrated with them at times. There were a few times where characters that were introduced were rather random to the plot, but I'm hoping that with the second book it's explained clearer. I'm excited to read more from this author!

Twins fighting for the right to the throne? And they're actually best friends? Yes please.

I was so excited to read this book. Not only is the cover GORGEOUS (I mean look at that), but the plot sounded really fun.

And it was for the most part. Carys was a really interesting character. She's a skilled fighter and will do anything to protect her brother. One of the first scenes of her involves her purposely getting herself in trouble, knowing she will be whipped, to prevent her brothers sickness from being known. They believe that if people find out about her brother's illness he will be killed. So we know that she cares deeply for her brother and is willing to sacrifice her wellbeing for it. She's also flawed and we know that she is suffering from an addiction.

Then we have Andreus. Holy fuck do I HATE THIS GUY!!! After his sister gets herself BEATEN for him, he doesn't go and check on her! Instead he decides to have sex with the fiancé of his brother that just died that day. What a great guy right? And he only got worse from here. Reading his chapters were actually painful because he was such a shitty human being. And also one of the dumbest characters I've ever seen. He is this desperate to continue sleeping with this girl that he's willing to just believe everything she says and completely turn on his sister who has literally done EVERYTHING for him!?!? DOUCHE BAG.

The plot itself was pretty interesting and I was interested the entire time. I'm happy we finally realized why they need the lights at the end. Watching Andreus spiral was crazy. He went so far so fast that I was shocked. And the only thing that killed me about Carys was that she was so willing to keep giving to her brother, when he obviously didn't care about her at all.

The romances were not something I was invested in at all to be honest. Except for hating Andreus and Imogen.

I am interested to see what happens in the next and last book. I'm hoping we get to see Carys kick some ass!

Not in love with the book but I do really enjoy this authors writing.

You have a little bit of everything in here, family drama, love interests, secrets, best friends, fights, trials and a few shockers. At one point I thought the book was going a certain way and thought that it was way to predictable but I'm happy to say that Joelle doesn't do that with you in this book. She has truly tried to find a way for you to stay interested in the characters and try to figure out the mystery of who is doing what and who has whose back.

Though I wish there was a little bit more information on the Xhelozi and how they came about and why, along with the war that Eden is currently fighting. I am hoping that in the next book we find out more information regarding these.

I would recommend this book and feel that it hasn't received enough hype.

The reading slump I have been in for a few months now has possibly been absolutely eradicated thanks to this beauty of a novel. I have found myself reeling and craving more after finishing Dividing Eden and as always with great books I am counting down the days, through my Goodreads account, to when Eden Conquered releases next year on the 12th of June. This is definitely a great read for anyone who thoroughly enjoyed Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas or Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. You may be wondering where the magical elements might be hiding within the story - well just take my word and WAIT FOR IT... Read on and be bedazzled!
