Ok so boom… in The Christmas Party you meet Sasha, Leah and Erin. Three sisters that fell out after something horrible happened 10 years prior to the start of the story.
This book was BORING!!! Like my God! I wanted to give up so many times, but was determined to finish it. I want to say it literally didn’t pick up the pace until around chapter 48… it’s 62 chapters total. And even then, I was still like

Ehh. Maybe i have read too many thrillers or maybe i just always think i guessed the storyline

This was very gripping and I loved switching between all the characters - it added a depth of perspective.

It was interesting finding out more about each character, both through their eyes and others - I definitely have a favorite sister! The tension really builds as the plot progresses - plus more and more of the past is explained in small teasers. The ending has a clear "finish" whilst still showing that there is room for the story to continue - can't wait for the sequel.

With the reveal I felt that certain chapters had just been a bit misleading, as I got a different feeling whilst reading them - though I did enjoy the twist. There was also one section where I didn't quite believe a character would have acted that way - but it was brief.

Overall, I blazed through this as I just had to know what happened! There is so much more to find out about the family, and I'm looking forward to that.

*I received a complimentary copy of the e-book from LoveBooksTours and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

‘The Christmas Party’ sparkles with the celebration of a joyous family reunion, one that is as cold as the season! It is a gripping tale of jealousy, love, and deception and will you hooked through to the end! This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be the last as I need to find out what happens to these characters and I can't wait to read the follo-up!

The Bailey family have been estranged for nearly a decade but they have reunited for a Christmas party in a plush hotel that one of them owns. Erin left her family one day and was never heard of again until an invitation to this party comes through the post. Will their reunion be joyful or the start of a night from hell…

Gosh, I don't think I liked one person in this family!!! Well Leah the youngest seemed okayish. But I think that is the point we are meant to dislike them to reflect the thriller aspect of the story! It is told from multiple points of view and this helps to build the tension between the family members. I spent the whole of the book wondering who was going to be an unreliable narrator and if so why?! God, there were some good reveals and twists in this book and it certainly kept me reading until I had finished it in a couple of sittings!

Bring on the follow-up!

a lot of character and time changes gets a bit confusing at times; has some unexpected events throughout to keep engaging

This book initially seems like a very dark and sinister thriller: with an interesting set up for a family reunion. Yet what it turned into was a dysfunctional family drama with secrets unfolding every step of the way. Three sisters and their mother are reunited after a ten year estrangement for a Christmas party to remember at a beautiful English estate hotel, owned by Erin, the middle sister and husband Aaron. Every sister and character had a peculiar back story and motive that leads them towards a murder on that fateful night.

There are lots of perspectives thrown in from each character in every chapter, especially with the baggage of them all from ten years ago to the present time. each of the characters was conflicted and had something to hide, and their dishonesty was the only truthful thing about them all. While all the family characters seem to be explored, there are a few others that that seemed dubious in their place in the story when they appeared. I wish more of the secrets were fleshed out more – there were a few red herrings which could have had greater depth to the overall story. of hurt feelings. On the other hand, I didn't think there was much mystery to the story. I was unconvinced at the ending, and I was really hoping for the ending to have not been so rushed and with the number of unreliable narrators, some more depth would have grounded the twists at the end. The book was a very quick read for me, perfect for a holiday read.
