I tried really hard to get through this book. The plot is way beyond the realm of disbelief, but so are Alex Hawke and James Bond, and I like those.
The difference here is the quality of writing. this book is clunky at best, amateur at worst. The tone is often off, the speech is boring, character development minimal, and there are moments where I would hear threw or four long lines and wonder why the author didn't just say the same thing in a simple 8-word sentence.
Just not a very good book.

Fun book, easy to follow style. I'll read more of these.
I had high hopes for this book, but it was not great. Good enough that I will try the next book to see if the series gets better. But as a recommendation if you want a great suspense/thriller go for Lee Child's books.
Secret Service Agent Scot Harvath is protecting the President's daughter on a family ski trip when the unimaginable happens - they are ambushed on the ski slopes, the President is kidnapped, and only Scot and the president's daughter survive the attack.
Injured, he vows to get the President back and avenge the death of his men but soon the eye of suspicion turns towards him. Everyone he trusts turns against him and friends looking to him for help turn up dead.
Thus starts a global mission to find the President before various groups of hit-men find him. Helped by a very capable Swiss Investigator, Claudia Mueller, this first in the series is action packed and complicated by political and financial motivations. It made me think of the Jason Bourne books...although somewhat different. The author has been known to use local sites in his novels. (One part of the epliogue took place in Lake Geneva, for example.)
Another one I'd give a 3.5 to - I already bought the next in the series.

A fast-paced political thriller, can't wait to read the next one.
Really enjoyed it. I started with book #14 which was very good then book #15. Figured I really like Scot Harvath series I want to start from the beginning. I'm glad I did.
This is my first Brad Thor book. I liked it and may read another of his in the future. I found it a little predictable and I imagine some non American readers will bristle at the "American hero" aspect but what would you expect? Anyway, it was a nice enough read.
Pleasantly surprised by this title. Lots of action and not a lot of fluff. I can't wait to continue the series and see what is in store for Scot Harvath.
