I really tried to like this book, but I just couldn't get into it. It is rare that I "DNF" a book, but this one just didn't hold my attention.

A knife to the heart

Allegra and Derek's story was a lesson in emotional whiplash.

I never knew if I was in for the emotionally unattached Reign or the sweet and vulnerable Derek (and his Stellina).

To be fair, he had a lot of hardships before he was famous, and he also had a lot of new issues that fame brought with it.

When they were open and honest with each other, it was beautiful to read. When Derek threw his walls up...well, my heart hurt for Allegra.

There is no denying that the two of them shared a special connection, it bled from the pages. Their attraction, their chemistry, their push and pull. They were everything.

And that cliffhanger? Brutal. Absolutely savage.
I'll be here, waiting patiently for ALL THE GROVELLING.

Temp Review: I like the writing and even the FMC…her choices on the other hand not so much. At the end of the book she chooses to leave behind a job she loves and supportive friends to follow the two male in her life—who both treat her like shit—to Europe.

The writing here was good, but I feel like the supporting characters brought this one home. I didn't like Derek's hot and cold routine, Allegra's brother Levi is a total tool and I had to remind myself numerous times that Allegra is young and it shows. With that said, this book is tragic, annoying at times, but I think there may be some redemption coming in the next book. The supporting characters in this story really were the best though. Mav was a wonderful and unexpected character, but Dre, and Buck really stole the show for me. I liked their parts of the story best and I loved the banter with Allegra's LA girlfriends.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This book, man, it was a total emotional whirlwind! Allegra and Derek's story had me on a rollercoaster ride. Sometimes he was all distant and cool, and other times he showed his vulnerable side. The chemistry between them was off the charts, but Derek's walls just tore my heart apart. And that ending? I can't wait for the next book to see how it all plays out. This story is angsty and intense, with a lot of ups and downs. Highly recommend giving it a read!

(I received an ARC for this book)

This book ends on a cliffhanger!

Trigger Warnings include:
child abandonment, foster care system, child abuse, drug use, sudden loss

This is four years after the prequel. And I mention that because I’m not sure if it felt like no time had passed, or too much time had. Allegra is determined to reconnect with her brother, which also means moving in with complete strangers who are also famous. That alone was its own issue. I had already questioned whatever brother/sister bond they had, but after finishing this book, I can guarantee that I want nothing to do with her brother. I do not wish to experience his redemption. I genuinely hope he doesn’t somehow manage to repair what he’s broken, because she deserves better than that. Which brings me to her and Derek. Because she one thousand percent deserves better than him. Allegra is focused on making a better future for herself. A better life than the one her parents were ‘forcing’ her to have. She shouldn’t be focused on the one man in her life that is destroying her. He’s manipulative and it’s icky. I won’t be reading the rest of their story. Derek could grovel for twenty books, and I’d still never forgive him for the damage he’s already done up to this point. I genuinely should have DNFed. But I really did want to figure out what Allegra was going to do. But after the mess Derek caused, that doesn’t matter to me anymore.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “Do you have any idea what you do to me?”
• “I still want you, fucking crave you.”
• “You taste like want.”
• “I can’t not touch when you’re sitting this close.”
• “I’m the man who makes you feel things. No one else.”
• “Don’t burn out.”
• “I want to savor this with you.”
• “It may not be the right kind of love, but it’s love.”
