Super interesting concept and I loved the way the book played with form (with appendices and imagined interviews and narrative verse) but admittedly felt at times I would appreciate it more if I were smarter. Found it easier to listen to the audiobook to define the characters and voices better, as when I tried to read it  I felt the need to decipher every line like with typical poetry. Mostly appreciated the funny little characters and surprising moments of beauty in monstrosity

At first I adored this, but by the time I was at the second half I found myself lost at something that felt messier and messier the more I read. By the end I felt hugely dissatisfied. I am hugely keen to read some more Anne Carson as she is clearly a great writer, though I feel this may have not been the book of hers to start with. Perhaps the wrong book for that moment in time.

I’m not gonna pretend that I fully understood this, but I found beauty in it nonetheless. I’d like to read more from this author.
