Animal Farm

Much like 1984, Orwell's dystopian masterpiece, Animal Farm is disquietingly morose and prophetic. In fact, if you substitute Hillary for "Snowball" and Donald for "Napoleon," it reads like the Daily News.

Update 24 Jan 2021: when I wrote this years ago I was unaware how injurious it might be to compare the actions of a sitting American president to those of an Orwellian pig. Now, after four years of president Donald J Trump, I feel I owe an apology—to the Orwellian pig.

So wonderfully written yet totally bleak and disconcerting. I don't think Orwell's Oceania is beyond the realm of possibility. In fact, many aspects are already disturbingly familiar.

There’s no money in the world that could make me read this again.

Reread these two George Orwell’s masterpieces. So upsetting and brilliant. This time I listened to the audiobook narrated by Stephen Fry. I totally, completely believe in Stephen Fry supremacy

Animal Farm is a hugely overrated book that very poorly describes the complexity of communism in Russia and Eastern Europe. I think it deals with how everything ended very close-mindedly not focusing on how the issue of capitalism is not innate and rather forced upon everyone due to the society outside. Perhaps Russia wouldn’t have ended like that if circumstances weren’t the same.

Also, the writing is way too simple for someone who is claimed to be extremely smart and he barely touches on characterisation.

A must-read classic. Spectacular and should be a warning to those who sanctimoneously veer far to the left or right.
