It’s been a while but the wait was well worth it. Once again, Robert has brought me back to my teenage years and the stories are fantastic. We join our crew of C&C misfits (Dave, Tim, Cooper, Julian, Cat, Chaz, Stacy, and others) as they seek out Mordred after being thrust back into the realm of Cardinia.

What do you do when one of your characters brings about a new God into a realm which, prior to this encounter, had established rules and deities? Well, Randy is on a quest to find out as he is now the sole Paladin/holy man for the Jesus Christ within the realms.

Perhaps the most disturbing encounter in the book was with regards to Denise in the cellar of the Whore's Head Tavern. I won't spoil it, but it caught me by surprise during one of my evening runs.

There are many side stories within this fourth installment of the series and it keeps you drawn in to the same wonderful writing style which was present in the first three books (and three collections of short stories known as the D6 writings).

Robert is a master of the pen and has brought about another gem in the collection. Likewise, Jonathan Sleep is a fantastic narrator and is great with the various characters present in the story. Now, the wait for book five audiobook. An easily recommended book if you've ever played D&D.

The books/characters are definitely starting to feel the effects of living in a game world and what that means to each of them. While I might like agree with the choices that were made, it does make for an interesting read.

I just can't anymore. The first 3 were funny in a crude way, but I've now read over 1000 pages of characters that I don't actually care about. I'm burnt out on this, maybe I'll come back and finish one day, but not soon.

The last 20% of this book was so good and funny. The characters . . . they are just a bunch of fuck ups. And it works. The last couple of books it was getting on my nerves but it worked really well in this one.

The title of the series is a description that fits Tim well. Anyway if you found the first books worth reading this one is about the same.

What it's about: The ongoing attempt of people from Earth to return there after being magically sent to a world based on a "Caverns & Creatures" (C&C, a.k.a. Dungeons & Dragons) campaign.

What I thought: Basically, this is like a D&D campaign - it keeps unspooling, headed for an ultimate goal, but wandering around a bit on its way there. The pacing for what is going on is not terrible; in fact, in places, things are a bit under-developed. But the story just keeps going, and the next books are, to my mind, not going to live up to the value-for-cost. I got the first four books for about a buck each, which was about right, IMO.

Why I rated it like I did: Alright, I'm out. I can only take the plot-driven story for so long with characters who just get less and less interesting. Tim just becomes more and more of a drunk jerk, and seems to grow more and more stupid and impulsive; I can only take four books of that before I just get too overwhelmed. Ironically, the one character who was driving me insane (Cooper) actually got a little bit of development; but then he was dropped out of the story until the last page, so I doubt it's going to stick.

Great fun fast reads. Series keeps you turning the pages.

I love this series it's funny and keeps you wondering how you would fare in similar situations. Can't wait to read the next one.
