At this point, I'll read anything Michael Wood writes. He is just that good.

What do you do when you find out your father is a murderer? What do you do when you find out he is about to be released early from prison?

Vengeance Is Mine is about a 20-year-old murder that changed the lives of several families in a small English town. Dawn Shepard gets a call one morning that changes the course of her life and brings tragedy back to so many others. As she discovers who her father is she will discover more about what it means to be a victim and how justice is served.

When this appeared in my inbox, I couldnt download this quick enough and it went straight to the top of my TBR. I did force myself to make this last as long as possible (so hard!) as it’s far too long to wait for the next Darke edition.

With this author, I have learnt not to think about what the plot is and to expect anything, he gives so much to readers, the unexpected being the ‘most’ much.

I love how this all unravelled, I was hooked from the get go and the intensity of the book didn’t wan once. A set of amazing characters, I found myself asking ‘what I would do’ In each of the characters part of the plot. The character development is interesting, especially seeing how they were linked,

Of course there were twists aplenty and I really didn’t see that ending coming! This needs to be added to your TBR, I cannot recommend it more.

An incredibly powerful and compelling read with strong storylines running through. The overarching themes of evil and nature re nurture and vengeance are brilliantly portrayed and the narrative is addictive and pulls you in.
I liked the central characters and was very invested in the idea of finally finding your father only to be deeply conflicted because you also find out he is a child killer. The themes are very thought provoking and pull at your conscience and the questions of morality and vengeance.
I’ve read books by this author previously and as usual was definitely not disappointed. A definite recommend.

A few decades ago a 13-year-old girl was murdered, and the murdered ended up in prison. The murderer is about to be released, and people are not happy about it. A young woman finds out the murderer is her father. She wants to get to know him. What could go wrong?

Another solid story by the master storyteller Michael Wood. I especially enjoy it when an author finds something new in the familiar, or surprises me with something different I have never read about. Wood is a great author when it comes to both. A solid Wood. You cannot put the book down, because you keep on wondering where is the twist, what will happen. The twist is there. It will happen.

We've got copious amounts of family drama in this one folks. A daughter learning of the existence of her mysterious, possibly murderous Dad. A prescription drug that potentially makes its users go bonkers at times. A whole lot of investigating and mystery solving.

I enjoyed this book while I was reading it, but I wasn't drawn back to it when I put it down. That could be due to lack of suspense and not really finding myself invested in the outcome. I'm not usually interested in domestic thrillers as family relationships aren't really my jam, so this is definitely a me issue, not an issue with the book itself. I did find the twist at the end quite surprising and the ending was satisfying.

This book would be perfect for anyone who likes a little family drama mixed into their thriller. It is well written and I look forward to reading more of this Author's books in the future.

Vengeance is Mine by Michael Wood is a standalone novel. I’m a big fan of Michael’s work. This was certainly a different to his other books but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It was a very clever story. In 1999, a 13 year old girl, Stephanie White, disappears on her birthday. A man, Dominic Griffiths, was jailed for her murder. We move forward 20 years. Dominic had a daughter who finds out who her father is just before he is released. All the emotions Dawn goes through having to process it are portrayed very well. I was drawn into it as I was carried along emotionally. Dawn tries to come to terms with the situation and she decides she wants to know the truth as she tries to make sense of it. It made me feel sad, the number of lives that the murder touched, the lives it destroyed. It made me question what I would do in the same situation as Dawn, whether I would want any contact with my father if he was a murderer. This situation puts husband against wife as feelings boil over. Great writing and a great pace. It was hard to put down.

A girl was taken from the streets on her 13th birthday and brutally murdered. Twenty years later, the killer is due to be released from prison which prompts his ex-lover to confess to her daughter that her father is a murderer.
Dawn is shocked to discover the truth, but launches herself into learning as much as she can about her newly discovered father.

Vengeance is Mine is a book that had me gripped right from the first chapter. Michael Wood has the most wonderful way of writing that draws you in and doesn't let you go until you've finished reading; this was the kind of book that makes me read 'just one more chapter'.

The characters were expertly written and I became immersed into their world, needing to know all the details of what had happened.

This is the second book I have read recently by Michael Wood and I will certainly be looking to read more of his books and they have both been excellent.

My thanks to the Publishers and NetGalley for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.

Dawn has never known her father and has never really cared, she's forging a life for herself as an independent woman.  However, when her mother reveals that her father is a convicted childkiller who is just about to be released from prison, Dawn has choices to make.  She sees the parents of the murdered girl and her own grandfather, then she meets her father - but can she forgive him?
There is so much to like about this book, the characterisation is excellent, the plot clever.  In fact the only thing I didn't like was the ending!
