Enjoyable sequel, though a little slow in some parts. The romance is sweet, although less of it here, and the world set up is interesting enough. It's not high drama like some YA, more of a gentle pace. Divine Rivals was a bit better I think. Highly recommend listening to the audio book - the voice actors are always so so good. This feels like the end of this series, but I will read more Rebecca Ross. Her river enchanted series is great.

My one issue: I did feel like the character of
Forest (Iris's brother) was hard done by. He's one of the main mysteries in the first book since he's missing, then he comes back and doesn't really have a good relationship with Iris, shacks up with one of her friends and then dies pointlessly alongside her in an attack. I just felt like his death had no purpose and was a real fizzler. If you took Forrest out of the book, would it matter? I'm sure he represented the pointless deaths of the war or something, but when he was found dead I was just like... oh okay. He really didn't do much in the second book.

Wonderful conclusion to this duology! I loved the increased role of the Divines compared to the first book. The way they utilize the ley lines felt a bit odd to me, it kinda came out of nowhere. I had already predicted what would happen to
Forest
but was still heartbroken. The switching POVs during
the bombing of Oath
was also cool, it captured the chaos really well in my opinion. I also generally dislike
when every character ends up paired off conveniently by the end
, and this does fall into that trope. Despite that, it was a fun and engaging listen!

A tight and neat ending to a tight and neat story.
I like that despite the main leads getting together in the first book, the author found ways to keep their relationship interesting.
I like the soft magic system and worksbuikding, makes the world fairy-tale like.
