Short and creepy. Perfect for a little taste of Halloween season.
Started out ready to give this one 3 stars, but I’m giving it 4 because it’s one hell of a fun ride and I can’t remember why I was considering 3. It’s short and sweet, easy to get through in a few days but what makes it so easy is that it’s a page turner. Very cinematic, action and horror packed. It reads like some of the best classic horror movies and slashers, it starts and dives right into the gory good stuff because there’s a tight budget. My one critique may be that if it were a bit longer I would have loved to leave the mystery of the October Boy burn a bit more, let him be creepier longer.
A dark fairytale of a story whose conversational and folksy tone reminds me favorably of Stephen King and Bradbury.
fast-paced
A light, fun read for the Halloween season. Catchy writing and a solid creature feature storyline with a few surprises along the way.
Holy shit, I absolutely loved this novella.
Halloween night, a twisted tradition, a vengeful scarecrow jack-o’-lantern hybrid? What’s not to love?
This book had it all, in my opinion. Heart, lore, suspense. I was glued to the pages. I loved the POV the author used and it genuinely felt like I was sitting at a camp fire on a cool Autumn night listening to an old man tell me a story from his time.
I may even go and say this is my favorite read of ‘24 so far.

Decent story, if not a little predictable, but the writing was unbearable.
It's a good book, a quick read. I give it a 3/5 because it was not as bloody, gory, or scary as I was told it would be. It was a good read, but it didn't have enough oomph (for lack of a better word) to keep my mind engaged. I had to re-read paragraphs several times.
