If you love PNR/ urban fantasy/ horror, you should read this book. If you love Karina Halle's contemporary romances, or her recent rom com, you should read this book. It is a spin off from Experiment in Terror, but it is very much a standalone.

Ada is recently having nightmares involving a mysterious but handsome ginger. She does not count on new neighbors or the arrival of the mysterious Jay.

Ada very much sheds the perception of just Little Fifteen and comes into her own in Veiled. I enjoyed her perspective and getting to know her better. Jay had some of the best quotes and is the perfect kind of antihero that I adore.

These characters, these words, this story..............5 F@*king Stars!!!

F@*k Yeah!!!! THIS is what I am talking about!!! No, literally, I am talking about this book to anyone who will listen (and to a few who aren't)! My advice, if you are even considering this book--DO IT! Take the chance! It's unique, intense and a great way to step out your everyday reading zone. Yes, it's PNR but it's also much more. It's emotional, sexy, scary, funny, touching and uplifting!

I have been a Karina Halle fan since I picked up the first EIT book. I love that Karina is a genre jumper because I am too and I've read most everything she has written. But reading Veiled was like going back home for me. It was not quite the same as EIT but it still hit that special place inside. It felt like a hug from an old friend. *Sigh* Don't worry Veiled is a spin off and totally stands on it's own. It's not necessary to read EIT first but I bet you will want to after reading Veiled.

I really like when Karina Halle does horror. Halle has a talent for writing creepy moments and typically the stories sucks me in. She does a lot of contemporary romance too but I like Halle's writing best in the horror genre. I hope this gets turned into a series.

Little fifteen is a warrior!!

Ada Palamino was a fav side character of mine in the EIT series and it was so great to have a story for just Ada, herself! This girl is fierce!

It’s been a while since the terrible events that happened in New York... when the Palamino matriarch selflessly sacrificed herself to save her family. Now with just Ada and her dad in that big house, everything is messed up. When Ada moves into Perry’s old bedroom, she starts hearing scratching and knocking from inside the closet, among many other terrifying visions and dreams (mostly about her mom suffering). When new neighbors move in next door (some wonderful familiar faces from one of Halle’s previous series), they bring along with them someone Ada has been seeing in her dreams, a tall and handsome fella named Jay, who she feels a seriously strong connection to.

Jay is more than he seems and he is the one to ultimately help her see her true potential fighting against evil. Together, they will try to bring her mom back from Hell.

The Hellish parts of this book were scary! Omg they were SCARY!! But the forbidden romance between Ada and Jay was one for the history books.

For as long as I’ve been member on Goodreads I remember having Karina Halle’s Experiment in Terror books on my shelves.

That was 4 years ago or so and I was just discovering romance books so my first interest for horror and spooky stories wasn’t enough to make me read them already. I knew they must be good as many friends recommended me throughout the years. But I knew there was a slow burn love story, spanning over 10 books or so… talk about a daring challenge! I wasn’t sure if I wasn’t up for it just yet.

So when I was offered to read the spin-off new standalone of EiT, I jumped on the occasion. Finally it was my chance to have a taste of the highly recommended romance horror stories.

Ada Palomino is Perry’s little sister, the famous character from EiT, she’s all but eighteen but knows how dark and dangerous the world can be. After all she comes from a long line of gifted women, she has the ability to see ghosts and others hidden powers.

After her mother died two years ago, her whole world started to change and not for the best. Her sister moved out of the house and she’s left alone facing new and disturbing things happening in her house… Knock. Knock. Knock.

Fortunately for her, she’s going to get help from a Jacob, a redhead protector designated just for her. Hers is called Jay, and he is indeed a delicious ginger specimen. Ada is not to be blamed for lusting after such an attractive male, and all those mixed signals he’s sending her are confusing! Together they’re going to fight off demons and creatures from the darkness all the while trying to resolve Ada’s mother errant soul mystery.
“A ginger, just as I had remembered, though he’s probably the sexiest, most enthralling male specimen I’ve ever seen.”

Now let me tell you, from page one Karina Halle had me gripping the edge of my bed ( reading at night, what a grand idea) and questioning my sanity as to start such a creepy book at night time. Ada’s POV and matter-o-factness regarding the strange line of events happening to her had me throwing out a thousands questions at a time. I needed to know what monsters were after her and why.

Having not read the EiT books, I had no ideas what to expect in term of surprises or shock value so I was just bracing myself to be spooked and spooked hard I was. Or let just call it a gradually tension, an heavy unease…

I loved Ada’s character, quirky fashion blogger, she was the perfect mixed of girly badass. Jay revealed himself to be a caring and protective alpha and I loved the slow burning feelings developing between them but his position of know it all throughout the book really annoyed me.
“In what way do you want me?”
“Every way. To feel you. To taste you. Every inch of you.”

Overall I enjoyed this story but to me, it wasn’t truly Ada’s story… Too much Dex and Perry interventions or references had me a little annoyed at times, as I felt that Ada’s story couldn’t stand on its own, or at least that’s what those “apparitions” made me think of. I don’t think it was necessary to refer to Perry and this and Perry that so much, but that’s just me. Now I must admit a few of their verbal exchanges made me want to read more about them, and I will start EiT properly in the near future.
“The more human I get, the more dangerous I become. The more dangerous it is for us. And I can’t promise a happy ending.”
“I don’t need your promises”

Another thing tainted my enjoyment a little… It was the unanswered questions Ada had for Jay. His answers whenever she was questioning his decisions were often vague or rest solely upon the fact that things were what they were in the Thin Veil or Hell. I wished the author had developed those specific questions, as I was as curious as Ada ! Too much cryptic answers killed it a little for me, sorry!

Veiled is a standalone mixing ingeniously horror, suspense and romance. If you need a thrill, some fun and steam then you should really pick this one up. It reads flawlessly and was intensely addictive.

Ada is awesome! She's strong, sassy, and fantastic. Jay is the perfect foil for her because he doesn't let her get away with much but he also supports her.

And seriously, I don't know why anyone would watch the crappy horror movies that are out these days because this book was far scarier than any film I've seen. Halle's descriptions are terrifying. I haven't read much horror since I went through my teenage Stephen King phase, but this book creeped me out just as much as those did. And, as much as I love EIT, I think this book is better than any one book in that series. Yes, I said it. Jayda still have a ways to go before they're as epic as Derry, but the story is scary as shit.

Let me say this first before I get to the review ... K Halle you have to make this into a series. You can't just tease us like this and not give us more. Your fans have been waiting for this story it seems like forever. So please make this into a series please!

Now I have that out the way. So I've been waiting for this story forever. I kept checking on it and didn't see any updates so I decided to give up on it. And last week I happen to see a cover and a release date ... talk about somebody's day being made!

I usually try to stay away from the creepy scary books because I scare easily ... don't side eye me! But after taking a chance on the EIT series and falling in love with Perry & Dex when I heard Ada might be getting her own series I was too excited!

This story was so good. It did not disappoint. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I feel like the whole part of the story we were being lead to
Spoiler the whole going to Hell thing
wasn't that epic. But hopefully we HALLE fans are just being teased (fingers crossed) and this is only the beginning.

There's not much I can say without giving anything away so I'm not going to say a lot because everyone needs to buy and read this so we can get a series.

Karina Halle you did a great job and proved to me once again that your one of the best authors ever. (I don't understand why your not getting movie and tv show offers and if you are where are they).

Even if your not a paranormal fan you have to read it because it's that good (I should know I dislike all things paranormal). Karina Halle will make you into a paranormal fan!

This is one of the best books of 2016!!!!!!!

I thought it was good up until about 75%, and then it just fell short for me. It seemed all a little too much, and insta love, just way too much stuff. Kinda sad and disappointed :/
