I had read a couple of bad romance novellas and figured a book championed by Jennifer Weiner and Jen Lancaster was worth a shot. It was a coincidence that I chose a story centered around family, really fraternal twin sisters, around Thanksgiving. I enjoyed this book and before I was done I was checking to see if her other books were available at the library and added them all to my hold list. Looking forward to them!

A wee bit shallow and somewhat predictable, but a good read nonetheless

Sarah Pekkanen absolutely nailed this story about identical twins who could not be more different. Although the story is told only through one twin's eyes, all of the characters are very well developed and you get a sense of both twins lives. I really enjoyed this!!

Lindsey Rose is a highly successful employee of a well-known ad agency in New York. Ever since she was a young girl, she strove to obtain perfect grades in every subject in school and kept herself well-organized in a completely obsessive-compulsive way. She did the same in college and was rewarded with the perfect job in which she works well over forty hours per week, sleeps very little, and is just within grasp of being promoted to vice president…all because her fraternal twin sister, Alex, is the beautiful one. In order to set herself apart, Lindsey chose to be the smart one at an early age.

Until one night it all falls apart.

The worst thing that could ever have happened to Lindsey may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. She just has to open her eyes and see it.

I really liked this one (read it in 3 or 4 days) and I would definitely check out anything else Pekkanan writes. She's got a humorous, light style that's easy to read.
I always like to read books about sisters because I can usually related. Who does feel like we're put into two categories: the "smart" one, or the "pretty" one. What I liked about this book was that it showed those labels are always changing, and that you can be both.
I did think the book was a little predictable (how many books about a successful girl who loses her job and then completely changes her life are out there) but I still really enjoy it. It also made me think about my own life and how I view success (more like Lindsey at the end of the story, and less like her at the beginning).
I felt like the whole "family mystery" thing was kind of thrown in there a little last minute though. I always feel like if the summary on the first page mentions something, it should be an important part of the book. Not that it wasn't important (it did help each sister to let go of who they thought they needed to be), it just felt like it came kind of late.

The Opposite of Me by Sarah Pekkanen is about an empty shell of a woman whose career is her life and nothing else matters, other than being smarter than her twin sister, Alex, who looks nothing like her and is a beautiful model. Lindsey is in line for a vice president position at her advertising agency in New York City when she’s outmaneuvered by a competing colleague who is not afraid to use her sexuality to get what she wants. Cheryl’s down-and-dirty tricks shatter Lindsey’s hopes, leaving her twisting in the wind and rudderless after the announcement that Cheryl is the new VP.

This book made me cry about a million times. I've never met a character who got the short end of the stick in so many ways but still ended up being awesome. Likeable. Real. It's chick lit, definitely, but it's good chick lit.

A easy fun book as a palate cleanser from the memoirs and nonfiction. Perfect for backyard/beach reading.

I enjoyed this book, but I had a hard time liking the main character which made it difficult for me to give this novel above 3 stars. I did like all the other characters though.
