Eva Kennedy decides to take a break from her job in Dublin as a delicatessen and goes to visit her friend Lainey in Australia. Whilst she is there Eva is hoping to forget about her failed relationship she had with Dermot. For a bit of fun Lainey ends up creating a new identity for Eva whilst she is on holidays which is fun until Eva wants to tell people who she really is and never seems to find the right time.

Joseph Wheeler has a rather stressful job in London and feels the need for a holiday so he heads to Australia. Whilst in Australia, Joseph attends a party where he bumps into Eva. After chatting to Joseph for a short time, Eva assumes that Joseph is a backpacker travelling around Australia and he goes along with it. They want to tell one another who they really are, but there never seems to be a good time. Will they eventually find out the truth about one another?

This was a light and enjoyable read, but I felt it dragged on a bit too much for me in parts. Although in saying that it is still worth a read especially if you're a fan of Monica McInerney like I am.

I thought this one was okay. I felt like the lies they told each other about themselves got really old and there wasn't a valid reason for keeping up the lie. I did enjoy the descriptions of Melbourne and Dublin though. She does have a way of making you feel like you are there when she describes a place!

I really enjoyed this book! Without knowing much about it going in, I was definitely pleasantly surprised.

I loved that it not only alternates between Eva and Joseph’s perspectives, but gives switches between them at the exact same moments in time. I imagined a split screen while reading.

I also thought this book was funny. While there were some serious moments and issues, the majority of the book is comical, especially with all of the near-misses and the fake stories that just got wildly out of control.

Above all, I thought it was sweet, but not sickeningly so. Eva and Joseph just truly enjoy each other, and their relationship evolves organically, if a little quickly. And there is an epilogue which, for me, really concluded the perfectly.

I would love for this to be made into a movie, and if it ever does, I hope it gives us a glimpse into their future beyond the epilogue! Needless to say that I recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

Love this author, so easy and warm. Read in 2 sittings. Eva pretends to be a famous singer and sculptor whilst falling in love.

This book was ADORABLE. A cute, interesting and loveable rom-com. Just what I needed after I read a string of quite disappointing serious novels. When Eva and Joseph meet during their respective travels to Australia they are both masquerading as someone they are not. Eva as famous singer and sculptor Nimah and Joseph as a carefree, broke backpacker. The pair quickly develop a deep connection, however when Joseph is forced to return to England before they can reveal their secrets both characters question whether the connection they shared is only due to their false personalities. What I loved about this book is how real it was. Everyone knows how quickly a white lie that started as a joke can go and this book takes it to the extreme. The writing is terrific, the characters simple but we'll developed and just the right amount of drama to keep you entertained without being completely unrealistic. This book made my heart really happy and deserves five stars for being entirely wholesome with a perfect ending.
