Honestly, this is a rambling mess of random thoughts. This has no actual bearing on anything in the story other than a historical footnote at best.

This is a very short story that details some of the events that lead to the Dark One's emprisonment and the tainting of Saidin, in the form of a historical document. It's just a bit of worldbuilding, but one that works pretty well, and goes with Jordan's style of writing conflicts based on gender differences.

It's not essential in any way, but a fun read for those who want to take a deeper look at Randland's history.

Interesting background for the series.
informative

This is a short story that explains how the Dark One came to be imprisoned which takes place before the Wheel of Time series proper starts. It's an interesting story that has Jordan's usual attention to detail but without being overly heavy. Worth a read for any that what to know how it all started.
