this read like a god-awful fanfiction to the original harry potter fanfiction that was carry on… praying that the third book remedies how little of resolution we got in this installment

I’m positively enamored with these books. And incredibly obsessed with Baz and Simon, both together and individually. Also, Penny is fantastic. I liked being a fly on the wall for friendship and relationship, but really wished there was more expansion on the emotions of the relationship in this book, and especially Simon, who went through some pretty traumatic stuff. I do feel like it’s almost unfair to judge this book without the third because they’re a day apart and essentially the same story, but hey, whatevs. I still can’t get enough.

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed because I loved the first volume so much. Shepard made it totally worth it tho. That dude is definitely in my top 10 best fictional dudes.

The War is supposedly over and has left Simon without any magical abilities. In an attempt to brighten his mood, Penelope plans for a road trip across America.

Their vacation takes an unexpected turn when they suspect that Agatha may be in danger. The subsequent rescue mission leads the trio and their new-found friend, Shepard, straight into the lair of a conniving organization that could prove to be disastrous for vampires and magicians alike.

This was such an entertaining book; I did not feel like setting it down at all! The writing is humorous and engrossing. The British colloquialism adds a charm to the entire narrative. I officially declare that Baz is one of my favourite characters EVER.

His, Simon and Penny's easy camaraderie brought a smile to my face. Their effortless friendship was one of the main factors that drove the story forward. I am always eager to read books with road trips in them, and this one was just as much fun to read about. There are enough twists and turns in the novel to keep this plot point from becoming trite.

Baz and Simon's relationship, that took a hit in the aftermath of the War, is explored beautifully in the book. It felt natural and I was rooting for them throughout the book.

There's a cliffhanger in the end, and I am going to have to wait close to a year for the third book! Oh the anticipation. If this series were to go on for a few more installments, I'd love nothing more.

So I originally read Carry On for Simon and Baz, because I wanted gay wizards in my life. I got what I wanted almost near the end of the book. So when I found out that there's a sequel I thought, yay, they are together now, I won't get deprived the gay(tm) but this fucking book is just the fucking embodiment of the miscommunication trope! They don't talk, they just pine after each other and wait for the other one to break up with them. And the cherry on top is the ending, when they start to finally fucking talk and it ends with a cliff hanger! What the fuck! Mind you, this is not me wtf-ing because I'm excited how it's going to continue. This is me being baffled that Rowell somehow convinced herself that this was good in any shape or form.
The first half read like some weird vacation au on ao3. The second half was some weird thrown together action sequence with vampires and more plot holes than a sequel, that took years to come out, should even have!
Penelope is just aweful, Simon is literally useless in any situation other than a fight, and Agatha was the only sensible person in the whole book, since she chose to leave those morons behind, but then joined the morons by agreeing to leave with them again.

I offically give up. I'm not even adding this to my lgbt+ shelf. Fuck this series.

The only reason this is 2 stars and not one, is because of Baz. My sweet, sarcastic , America bashing Baz.

Simon Snow, it hurts to look at you when you’re this happy.
And it hurts to look at you when you’re
depressed.
There’s no safe time for me to see you, nothing about you that doesn’t tear my heart from my chest and leave it breakable outside my body.

i just wish baz and simon weren’t fighting for 99% of the book
