Out of Bounds

R.S. Grey

3.57 AVERAGE

This is the second Olympic book I've read in the past week centered around gymnastics. As much as I hate to do comparisons between books and authors, I think this one warrants it. While the first one I read was more in depth on the technical side of gymnastics, this one was a little more fun and breezy.

R.S. Grey is awesome at building the tension and angst against her hero and heroine. Out of Bounds was bursting with it. The love/hate relationship between gymnast and coach was fun and also gave me the flutters in my tummy. Its got all the feels and makes you laugh at the same time.

While some of Grey's books tend to be a little tame when it comes to love scenes this one was full-blown, five alarm fire HOT! I've pretty much read everything as far as sexy times go, but let me tell you, R.S .Grey even shocked me and made me blush with one of them. Wowzers!

I loved Out of Bounds, and I'm not sure if there's any more Olympic books planned by this author, but I sure as hell want her to write them. D*mn!

~ Lia, 5 Olympic Gold Medals

A gymnast training for the Olympics doesn't see eye-to-eye with her handsome new coach.

This book had a lot of potential with the characters and setting but ultimately fell flat for me. Brie is woefully immature and she and her teammates often act like a gaggle of teenagers. Erik isn't a great love interest, and an even worse coach. He messes with Brie's head and acts very unprofessionally toward her, and not just in a sexual taboo sense. It felt like he hurt more than helped with Brie's practicing, and Brie achieved her goals at the Olympics despite his interference.

What really sunk the rating for me is that there was barely any conflict outside the main relationship, so the ending did not feel earned. Brie has a crisis of confidence for like 1 page (Erik helps her through it, which is about the only good thing he does the entire book) and then
Spoilergoes on to win literally everything. There was so much potential for June the rude teammate to cause problems, or the media found out they were involved, or something bad happens to Brie's mom, or someone on the team gets injured. The setting was rife with options but nothing like that ever happens, and even weirder is that despite the lack of serious consequences this is still not a fluffy book. It's 400 pages of Brie and Erik fighting. Even worse, Erik tries to give Brie more of a relationship near the end and she STILL fights him and then runs away. Girl is a train wreck but I suppose they deserve each other.

The main pro for this book is that the details about gymnastics and the Olympics all felt very realistic. The author is either passionate about the sport or did her research. The steamy scenes were pretty decent, too.

I take back what I said about Chasing Spring, this is actually my least favourite Grey novel.

Boths leads were just unlikable characters.

Brie was an idiot - she was rude, naive and the most indecisive character ever. Erik is not wrong about her when he calls her a brat because she was.

Erik. Erik was just boring. He had no personality whatsoever.

Seriously, the side characters and what we saw of them was more exciting than the leads of this book.

From the beginning I loved this book and could not put it down till the end. I stayed up way too late in the night to finish it, it was just one of those books that you cannot put down because it is so good.
Brie is one of the USA Olympic hopefuls to bring back gold in all her routines at Rio.
Erik is her new coach. He is hot, arrogant, fiery, hot and knows just how to push all of Brie's buttons. In the beginning she goes along with it but what happens when they reach the end of the road, they don't have to spend time together anymore and one of them realises there could be more?
A sexy book that gives you all you need in one go. It's sexy, it's funny, it's action packed and has all the fiery interactions between the two characters that will make you love it.

3.5/5 ⭐️

I love a good coach/athlete romance and I enjoyed this book a lot, but I wasn’t obsessed with it either.. does that make sense? I had trouble connecting with Brie and Erik, but that doesn’t mean you will! The spice was good, I just feel they were lacking the emotional connection I wanted to see. It held my attention for the most part and I liked the ending too!

4.25 stars.

Story: 4.5 stars. Narration: 4 stars.

First story I've read by R.S. Grey and I loved it.

The banter and push and pull between Erik (29) and Brie (20) was fun and I, for the most part, couldn't get enough. The last major push and pull between them was starting to reach 'this annoys me' but didn't quite get there.

The other girls on the team were fun too. I loved their back and forth and how close they were (not counting June), especially the
Spoilermoment when most of the girls started knocking on Erik's door, asking him for weird things when the girl from the bar was over.

The only moment in the whole book, that kind of came out of left field for me was the slight threesome. That threw me off and then it's never mentioned again.

I liked the narration, it was really good. Noelle Bridges did a really great job. Ryan Turner's voice didn't completely work for me, but he was still a good narration/voice actor.

Overall, I will definitely be reading more books by this author in the future.

Omg so good! I think I need to read more books about the Olympics.

Brie is a gymnast determined to win gold at the upcoming Olympics, not only for herself but for her
mom who sacrificed a lot for her daughters' passion. During the last month of training, she has to travel to Seattle, under the watch of her new and very sexy coach, Erik Winters. From the moment they meet, sparks ignite. Erik wants nothing more to show everyone that he can and will bring his team to victory, so he is not afraid to push the girls, especially Brie, to do just that. However, Brie is not afraid to show Erik who he is dealing with. They do everything they can to push each other's buttons. Despite the game they're playing, they can't seem to stop the lust and attraction that builds between the two and along the way they start to fall for one another.

Thoughts:

I lived for the banter between Brie and Erik, it was sexy as hell, and I couldn't get enough.

There was so much sexual tension, you could cut it with a knife. Brie and Erik are literally a perfect match, yet they are both too stubborn for their own damn good. The moment they started getting closer, one of them has to do or say something stupid, and it was so infuriating, but I guess it did make the ending so much more fulfilling.

And that yoga scene, my goodness, I had to clutch my imaginary pearls. I fully did not expect that to happen, but it did and I'm not mad about it.

I also think R.S Grey did a great job building up to the final trials as I actually found myself getting nervous during the scenes where Brie was performing.
Spoiler I was on the edge of my seat hoping she would win and when she did it felt like it was a weight lifted off of my own shoulders.
.

I can't recall a moment of this book that I enjoyed and I'm so sad because I've loved all of Rachel's previous books that I read. :(

2.5 stars
I read this the day it came out, but I didn't rate it right away. I loved Scoring Wilder. I have liked all the books that I have read by this author in the past. That's why I was surprised that I didn't love this one.

I read Out of Bounds straight through, because the author has a great writing style. It was easy to get caught up in the story. I liked the female friendships in this book. The main characters, Brie and Erik, have great sexual tension. The problem is that Erik is a complete asshole. I love hate to love romances. I love the "bad boy" trope. This guy just had no redeeming qualities. His character doesn't develop over the course of the story. He is awful to Brie until the last little bit of the book.

There is a scene that takes place in this book that is more risqué than anything else R. S. Grey has written previously. I usually have no problem with that type of scene. It felt wrong here, for multiple reasons. One being Erik is such a dick to Brie afterwards. That is never explained. The whole thing was sprung on her last minute. She hadn't even been intimate with him yet. I could go on, but it made no sense to me. Then to have him be cruel to her afterward made it worse.

Brie seemed like an idiot to me, because she keeps going back to him for more. Why? I can't see any other reason than that he is hot. She is an Olympian. She could scrounge up another hot guy easily.

Their story never felt like love to me which made the ending feel unbelievable. There wasn't enough transition between him being cruel to her to wanting a future with her. The emotional connection didn't feel real enough. I wanted to love this, but I just disliked the characters too much.
