What a unique book! Hannah Hart takes the reader through every month of the year and shows unique ways to celebrate the usual holidays and some outlandish ones. This isn't your typical recipe book, so if you are looking for that, you need to look elsewhere.

This book was a self help, idea, and memoir all rolled into one and it worked for me. I went into reading it with an open mind and I loved it. I can't wait to pass this one along to a friend who may need to be reminded to celebrate holidays throughout the year no matter what is going on in your life.

Had it not been for Hannah's humor this book might've been a two star book. The recipes were ok, but they felt nothing like her YouTube recipes where she does genuinely try to make from scratch while drunk.

The second book in the My Drunk Kitchen series is definitely more mature and refined than the first. The original book felt very natural with all its flaws and unappealing food. This one was well put together and the food stylist did a good job creating lovely displays, but it felt less Hannah Hart and more glossy magazine in all its fake-ity. The food looked nice, but I didn't start watching My Drunk Kitchen to see pretty food. I kind of wanted that natural feel back.

As with the first book, this is less a cookbook, and more a self-help book about appreciating life and making a lot of puns. While this one seemed to have more actual recipes than the first, it's more of a place to get ideas rather than detailed how-tos on making the food. Most of the recipes are very vague and do not include measurements (shout out to Ella's mom for the perfectly-detailed Black Olive Stuffing recipe; it looks mouthwatering and I definitely want to try making it).

The book is a mix of crafts and cooking ideas. Some of the holidays did not have either attributed to them and just gave some of Hart's thoughts on life, which was interesting, but I kind of wanted something to go along with it. Others were just semi-related ideas and tips rather than anything "useful" (go out for oysters, try out different hot dog toppings and presentations, etc.).

The pictures are fun and visually appealing. It was entertaining to learn about various lesser-known holidays, read some silly puns, and get to know Hannah Hart a little better. It's been a while since I read the first one, but she appeared more open about her personal life in this one.

You can definitely tell that Hannah Hart has grown a lot as a person in this book in comparison to the first one. More mature with the same fun humor. Reading/listening to Hart's jokes and thoughts on life is always a good time.

Overall, an interesting read.

First of all, much like [b:My Drunk Kitchen: A Guide to Eating, Drinking, and Going with Your Gut|18730154|My Drunk Kitchen A Guide to Eating, Drinking, and Going with Your Gut|Hannah Hart|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1403536255l/18730154._SX50_.jpg|26563867], this is not a cookbook. It is a funny, well-written book. If you are a long-time fan (as I am), the personal growth Hart displays even from [b:Buffering: Unshared Tales of a Life Fully Loaded|28217831|Buffering Unshared Tales of a Life Fully Loaded|Hannah Hart|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1463949051l/28217831._SY75_.jpg|48245448] to this book is incredible. Highly recommend for fans, people who like to laugh, or people looking for happy lesbian representation.

First of all I think it kind of stinks that so many of these reviews (good or bad) are based off of only a short preview.

This book is more food for thought than it is cookbook, and it is a very close adaptation of Hannah’s My Drunk Kitchen show.

I loved the recipe concepts that encourage celebration and using food as an opportunity for bonding with loved ones and solo reflection. My favorite moment is probably the ravioli “recipe” that includes tips for having healthy interactions in relationships. The whole book is filled with funny anecdotes and heart(hart)felt things to consider. Truly, only Hannah could’ve written this book, and it’s worth a read if you follow MDK!

Dollycas’ and LizzieCas’ Thoughts

Since my accident, my daughter Lizzie has become the cookbook collector of the family and she loves to bake and cook so I thought it would be fun if we reviewed this book together.

Hannah Hart puts an awesome take on our year-long festivities with fun stories and recipes. As well she gives a great look into other days just as “Mental Health Day” and “Love Our Children Day”.

Some may think this book is more of a storybook instead of a cookbook we feel it’s a happy medium of both. We really enjoyed the author’s messages to introduce the book, each month, and each holiday. They are fun and informative and gave the book a more personal feeling. The pictures are colorful, some are pretty amusing showing readers Hannah Hart’s great sense of humor.

This will be a book we pull out all year through and we can’t wait to try the recipes for this holiday season. The green bean casserole graced our table for Thanksgiving (a new twist on an old staple). With cookie baking right around the corner, we will take Hannah’s advice to have a cocktail. She also includes some excellent advice about kids and explaining Santa and the magic of Christmas.

This book would make a great Christmas present to share with loved ones. We already have started out lists!
