I read this quite awhile ago, but forgot to add to my list. I really enjoyed this book and COULD NOT put it down.
I love Paris. and I enjoy books about the Holocaust. But the writing/editing in this book was ter. rib. ale.
I am not sure I can make it through this one. I am already finding myself dreading reading portions as I am reading pages now. We will have to see.
11/11:
So I have really tried to finish this one. It is just to much for me right now. I have abandoned this one for another book. Maybe I can finish it in the future. I just find it difficult to read the parts that are being told by the child.

I am so disappointed in this book. The repetitive language and storyline made the audio book feel drawn out. The beautiful, strong message of bravery during The Holocaust was drowning behind the circular storyline. I was had higher hopes for this story.
Remarkable weaving of Occupied France and present day. Very moving portrayal of a young girl caught up in the "roundup" of Jewish families in Paris the summer of 1942.
emotional
sad
Really a 3 1/2. I really liked the historical information, but the characters felt contrived, and often unlikable.

This sadly is one of those books with a really interesting idea but it was executed very poorly. Her writing didn’t do this idea justice. It could have been really good. This isn’t a bad book but reading it while also reading Wilde, dickinson and many other classic authors makes the difference in the writing really noticeable. I didn’t expect this book to be at a classic level, but the writing was just really disappointing.
I liked the plot for this book, a young girl Locks her brother in their apartment in Paris before the nazi’s take her and her family away and your wondering if she is able to escape and safe her little brother.
Unfortunately there is another storyline involved about a very uninteresting woman. It’s about Julia, she is a wife and a mother in her late forties. She came of as dramatic and immature. I was annoyed the whole time I had to read about her.
It ruins the book totally. The author wrote way to little about Sarah and way to much about Julia. The story about Sarah is very very sad and it’s such a waste that so much of the book is about Julia.
I don’t hate this book, but it was very dissapointing.
