A love story set against the backdrop of the Syrian Civil War. It was beautiful and heartbreaking and hopeful and sad and hard to listen to at times. This book ran the gamut of emotions. It was a book about hope amidst trauma and finding that balance between love of country and staying true to your roots while also surviving. The audiobook was excellent. I personally recommend listening to this one because the narrator gave a lot of emotion and I was able to hear the correct pronunciation of Syrian words, which I think helped me appreciate the story even more. Do not skip the author’s note at the end.

Beautiful and heart-wrenching. This is one of those books that changes your worldview and leaves a lasting impression. It's a hard read because of the awful things Salama, Kenan and other Syrians have to endure, but it is oh so worth it.

Tragic story from this book. Why i'm crying a lot... I love how writer speaking for Syrian war, has amazing characters development so good and a good plot.

Salama have PTSD, she just loneliness until she found her lover, missing her parent, her brother and Layla. How tragic is...

Read this amazing book, you will def love the characters as i love them. It’s one of the best book ever that i have read
