Excellent character development.
The story starts at the beginning of their friendship and their book club in the 1960s and follows them through the decades.
All the women are so different from each other and I love that their lives are interwoven through joy, heartbreak, good times and bad, and books.
Sometimes the skip forward in time is disorienting. Big things seem like a blip, and smaller events are longer.
But that’s kind of how life feels.
This had a good ending, because it’s not an ending. I can see AHEB continuing into the future.

Not going to lie; I have found a new author I truly enjoy! Lorna’s books make me laugh, make me cry, and make me think! A wonderful way to have a novel impact you. This one has five main characters from 5 very diverse backgrounds. On the surface their lives on Freesia Circle seem very privileged and easy. But beneath the surface, like all of us, they carry pain, dreams, secrets, and courage- each in their own unique way.
I have never belonged to a book club until this past year, my first year in retirement. This book made me wish I had joined one years ago!! Audrey, Krista, Slip, Merit, and Faith will win your heart and capture your imagination.
Can’t wait to find my next Landvik novel!!

I don't think this is a book I would have chosen to read on my own, simply based on the title. In general I try not to judge books by their covers (or titles) but I assumed this one would be complete fluff, for lack of a better word. I'm so glad that this was a selection for our book club, though, because for that purpose alone it made me appreciate the group of women I gather with monthly to discuss our latest read.
Rather than fluff, what I got was the decades-long story of the lives of five women who juggle marriage, motherhood, careers, and coming to terms with the fact that not everything in life goes according to plan. The glue that holds them together are the books that they read and discuss; books that may not change their lives but bring perspective to women who might otherwise be sheltered from many of life's hardships.
I found this book to be well-written, entertaining, and fascinating. I was drawn into the lives of its characters and wanting to know what would happen next propelled me through each chapter toward the end.
I would highly recommend this book to any group of women who belong to - or who want to begin - a book club. Or to any woman who has a wonderfully diverse group of friends to whom she turn in the hardest of life's challenges.

A light read, nothing strenuous about this one. I liked all the characters and how their relationships grew & changed through the decades. Yes, like other reviewers say, the foreshadowing was so obvious...there were zero surprises. It seems the author took a class where she was told some kind of formula: "want x to happen? Then mention the character or theme x pages earlier."
This was a fun read. I liked that each chapter was a book selection and told from a different character's perspective. The book dealt with many serious issues and also not so serious issues; I liked that one chapter could be a serious issue and another not so serious.I feel like all the storylines that played out over the course of this thirty year bookclub/friendship were resolved by the end of the book. However, they weren't all resolved with a pretty bow.
I loved this book just as much this time around as I did the first time. I ♥ my girlfriends, and this makes me think of and appreciate them.
