Well, the format was interesting - it was as if the author interviewed all the characters or read journals and letters from them to piece together the mystery of the phantom. But, I got very confused by all the different perspectives - which may be in part due to the format in which I read it (on my Kindle).

I honestly didn't feel much sympathy for Christine. She was kind of whiny, weak and annoying, especially when she seemed to be playing on the love of both Erik and Raoul. I think a lot of that has to do with the time period, but I still found it distracting and annoying.

I also didn't feel much toward the ghost except for what a creepy, creepy guy he was with almost no morals.

I think both of the last points contributed to my feeling that it wasn't as romantic as the musical, so if you are going after that aspect, the book might not be for you. By the end, I just wanted everyone to be alive and I wasn't sure it was going to happen (even with the knowledge of what happens in the musical).

Overall, I think it is a good story, but probably not one I will revisit. :)

Les contaré los hechos en orden cronológico
Empecemos con qué primero vi una parte de la película y quedé fascinada con la fotografía y los diálogos.
Me acordé del libro.
Quise leer el libro porqué, normalmente, filmes ambientadas en esa época, en los libros son una joya.
(veo que no tanto jaja lol)
Boom, tengo el libro en mis manos.
Empieza la tortuosa experiencia de acostumbrarte a la forma que está escrito el libro, es literalmente, el autor (Gaston) explicándote los hechos y TOOOODAS sus investigaciones de porque el fantasma de la ópera SI fue real (hecho qué me sorprendió, ngl). Okay, me terminé acostumbrando pero fue una experiencia agridulce.
Cómo que la historia le daba largas, y ni siquiera como otros autores que le dan largas a la historia porque son demasiados descriptivos (like our friend Tolstoy), no no no, nada de eso; le daba largas porque abría una nueva llave en el mapa de llavecitas de la historia, no contó nada del Erik hasta el final y obviamente tuve que adivinar, el porqué era como re (un hombre obsesivo).
En fin, creo que Raoul wasn’t that bad. Él y el persa me parecieron los más interesantes y “cuerdos”
Christine was insoportable, okay, tenía miedo but like bitch get it together. Igual empatizo con ella tho.
El final tuvo más impacto en mí y me entretuvo más que toda la historia, y sí, el epílogo respondió todas mis dudas.
