I bought this book because of its cover, I like purple, okay?
somehow I did not expected I will like this as I continue reading the book. Like, I battled with myself for so many times whether giving it 3 stars or 4. But now I am torn between 4.5 or 5 stars. LMAO It was funny because I did not notice I was reading the last chapter before epilogue comes. But yes seriously, I like the book, the story, I like the idea of “a reader meets the author” especially I did not damn see it coming. The ending quite shocked me that I had to reread the beginning of the epilogue LOL I’m not quite satisfied, perhaps I am not just a fan of fast-paced book, I want to feel more intense feelings between the character something like that, I want it to be just slow, yes, I’m a very short tempered person though, but the book is good, I like it, I like it. There’s a lot of lines that hooked me to love this book.
I'm not often one to read romances, and reading the premise, I was a bit worried it would be a quick, rushed tale with toxic interactions passed off as romantic. I was pleasantly surprised and actually enjoyed the story the author spun.
I enjoyed the development of Amelia as a character. Watch her deal with her lose in a way that felt real, and acknowledging it. Not having it magically get better when she found someone to love. Watching the two character mutually learn to cope better with their loses was comforting.
I also appreciate the concept of found family being include, and (SPOILERS) that things don't magically get fixed with her mother at the end, even though things do improve. I like that it worked with the concept that it's okay to find family of your own if the one you're born into is not healthy, and it didn't become Amelia's job to fix it.
I actually did enjoy the romantic elements as well. Although the romance does occur over a short time, it did not feel rushed or forced, as I've seen in other books. And, (AGAIN, SPOILERS) I appreciated that Nolan didn't do anything dramatic and toxic when Amelia chose to leave. Was hurt and sad, yes, but didn't do anything crazy. It was as nice change for a romance character.
Overall, I would recommend the book, especially to people that a) enjoy romance, and b) find their escape from the real world in books, for a relatable character.

I received this book as part of a giveaway, and I'm so glad that I did! I'm not great at writing reviews, but I'll try and put some thoughts down cause it certainly deserves it. I finished it over two days and had a lot of trouble putting it down (and thank god I'm working from home so I could pick it back up the moment my day ended).
I do want to say that I normally try and avoid anything that heavily features hetero romance. And mostly, I'm saying that because I want to emphasize how much I loved this book and everything it did despite it going against my usual tastes. The book had a great balance of sadness, happiness, and all the other strange emotions that come with grief. I loved the writing, too, and the voice felt perfect for Amelia. I'm definitely above the YA target audience in age, but it captured those teenage years and the growing pains just after high school perfectly.
Also, unrelated, but the cover is absolutely gorgeous.

An exploration of grief that was so heartfelt I could look over some of the parts that didn't catch me as much. I'd highly recommend it, but I wish somehow that it'd focused more on the grief and less on the mysterious author.

We all have those favorite books, and when we find others who love them as much as we do, a friendship is formed. Amelia and Jenna are two such friends, becoming virtually sisters and planning their futures together. Readers will know that's a hint that these plans will obviously be derailed, and derailed they are: Jenna dies suddenly and Amelia's life is unhinged. She embarks on one of those grief-fueled journeys to a place she's never been in search of the sender of a copy of her favorite book.
There are few surprises in the plot, but the worlds are well built. To be honest, I would love to create Val's bookshop -- the different themes for the rooms, the community atmosphere. Sigh.

Amelia Unabridged is a beautiful story. I can’t begin to paraphrase the plot, so please read the book description. There are many emotions that go along with unexpectedly losing someone you love and wondering what your life is supposed to look like now that you are left to navigate your future without them. This book explores those emotions and the grieving process in a sweet, whimsical, and honest way. At the same time, the romance of two young people develops throughout. The writing is wonderful, creative, and enticing. There are pieces of the story that read like a fantasy, others as a romance, and yet, at its core, Amelia Unabridged is an inspiring coming-of-age story. I can’t say enough how much I adored this book and how much it has inspired me in how I move forward after the losses I have endured.
