This book was a very satisfying end to a solid trilogy. I was glad to have read this series! Well written, good pace and interesting characters.
4.5 stars. This took so long for me to read, but was more my fault than the books. I think it threw off my experience a bit which is probably why this didn't quite hit the five star mark for me. I loved the character development and I loved that the twists and turns kept coming and didn't disappoint. Parts of the ending where a little predictable but I liked that Rutkoski didn't attempt to tie up everything in neat little packages. This book is about war and war isn't like that. Overall, I adored this book, as expected. This whole trilogy is a definite recommend... *Swoons*
As with just about every third book in just about every trilogy I ever read, this one needed a more heavy-handed editor, and as such, I wound up skimming much of the ending. I'm not a big fan of the whole trope, because it tends to retread old ground. In this case, it made some sense because the central pairing had some major communication issues in the previous book, so there was a whole lot of air to clear. Still, I think I prefer my air cleared by, you know, actually productive conversations. I did, however, enjoy how much time they gave Roshar in this installment, and wish that they had given more time to other interesting secondary characters, like Sarsine, Verex, and Risha, who helped make the world feel more real and lived in.

I am so sad that this series ended up not being one that I love
This book was ok, I love the beginning of it, but as it drew closer to the battle and the end of the book it became boring. I was just ready for the book to end at that point. The book was longer than it should have been. It could have easily been 100 pages less and it would have been great. The author spent pages and pages just describing shit and emotions that didn’t need to be described. They were already emphasized throughout the book. There were pages and pages of pointless dialogue and I just grew so tired of this book and barley got through it. Also the whole build up to the relationship between Arin and Kestrel and the impending sex scene was just not worth it and sooooo boring, I actually skimmed through it. I really love the first two books and really didn’t like the last one. It could have been so much better.
First of all let me say that there were some great and clever tricks involved in the ending of the story so kudos to the author for that.
But unfortunately there was just too much (sometimes unnecessary) angst especially in the first part that, although it was beautifully written, I just couldn't enjoy the story; also with some of the settings the characters were in a lot of things just went too smoothly for my taste.
All in all a solid (although lacking in some points for me) conclusion to a great series.

Woof. This was a clunker. There's a lot of battle information and a heaping dose of amnesia that just grinds the momentum of the story to a halt. I didn't have a very good time reading this at all.
While the series has good writing and an interesting world, it never hits many highs. I don't know if it's too constrained by being YA or if this particular instance of 17 year olds taking on an empire is just too unbelievable. There are few thrills to be found here. Overall it was tepid.
