Overall an easy read.  I wasn’t wowed by the plot but equally I didn’t find the twist at the end as ruinous as other reviewers.

Whodunnit’s aren’t my usual fare which is perhaps why I don’t feel too strongly either way. The plot sort of meanders through and although members of the family are being picked off one by one I never really felt tense as a reader - I think I was hoping for something that would have me on the edge of my seat a little more.

So, I was really enjoying this And Then There Were None, style whodunnit, secluded location, one of them is a murderer book and then we got to the twist.

SPOILERS BELOW

SpoilerWhat the actual f***? So the nice old grandma fakes her own death, kills her son, daughter in law, grandchildren and family friend all with the help of her 15 year old great granddaughter? And all this time, Daisy Darker herself is a ghost?? But wait, characters are talking to her so she can't be a ghost, right? Wrong. If you're about to die you can see Daisy. If you're Trixie the great-granddaughter you can see and speak to Daisy because she died once. You can't make this shit up!

This is just lazy, lazy writing and it makes me angry. 2 stars because I was enjoying it up till the twist. Bye

This book is hard for me to rate. I didn't care for the writing itself; reviewer Yun captured my feelings perfectly: "It's got Feeney's trademark fortune cookie sayings, sprinkled throughout every page, as if she's dispensing wisdom that can only be gleamed if you pay enough attention." It is embellished with too many metaphors and descriptions for my taste. However, I liked the ending very much; it shocked me more than anything I've read for a while. I'm glad I stuck with it, but I don't think I'll read any more of Feeney's books.

Really enjoyed this modern take on "And Then There Were None". Family drama combined with bad weather and an isolated island, with lots of twists and turns. Lots of fun.
