Red, Red, Blue Brave Blue.

I honestly don't know how to write a proper review here.
This story was absolutely unique, filled with trepidation, twists, turns and so much raw emotion.

I seriously question how writing a story like this doesn't just take a piece of the soul and devour it. Because reading it broke me. But that ending when Red finally mixed perfectly with Blue & Lyrik became whole. Was. Everything. This story needed and more.

I don't understand why authors insist on sterotyping rock stars as bad boys who are broken and can only fall in love with equally broken bad girls.
I really need to learn my lesson on bying a whole series before I've even read the first book, because that's exactly what I did for this series. I didn't like the first two books, and this one I liked even less. It took me months to pick up this book and give it a chance, and honestly what a waste of time.
The way their intermonalgue or thoughts are written sound more like poetry then natural thoughts. It just sounds so forced and annoying. If I wanted something poetic I'd read a poetry book.
It also drove me crazy that with Tamara you had some idea of what happened with her, but with Lyric there's almost nothing to go on. It makes it hard to sympathize with him and understnad his actions, aka his assholeness. You literally don't find out what went on in his past until almost the end. Mind you it's all shoved into one chapter that took me an hour to read. Talk about overkill, spread it out at least.
Epilogues are almost always my favorite part of a book, and while this one had some sweet moments it made me more frustrated than anything else. I want to know who took over for Baz! It amazes me that there eeven is still a band with the amount of members they seem to go through.

You sing my soul. Ugh just hits you right there you know. If you are a musician then I'm sure you are right there with me on this notable quote from the book. Tamar and Lyrik are 2 souls that don't know they are looking for the other, that don't know they are going to crash into one another like a storm. I really loved this imagery to represent their chemistry. You can't help but love these two deeply hurt people who first must find their way back to themselves before they can truly find each other.

OH and man she kept those secrets close to the chest until the end. You know it had to be deep for how hard these 2 characters dodged each other. You sing my soul, I walked away with this on my mind and had to put my studios on to belt out some tunes. I had all the feels, the best ones, at the end of this one. I borrowed it on KU and went back and added it permanently to my library. I know this is one I will revisit down the road.

Well....she's done it again. Talk about two characters that were a hot mess. Holy Hell, Batman!

Lyrick and Tamar were both fighting their own pretty serious demons. They built walls and protected themselves they only way they knew how. For Tamar, it was developing a persona that pushed people away even though she was crushed by loneliness. Lyrick used his rock star status to pick from the hordes of women that would throw themselves at him. It wasn't until the two of them caught sight of each other that their careful crafted walls and defense mechanisms came crashing down.

Despite his a-holish ways, it was hard not to like Lyrik. Especially when he began to help Tamar deal with the everything that had happened to her. You saw all those traits that had Tamar falling for him. Even when he would push Tamar away with hurtful words and actions, you knew he was fighting against his own demons, brought forth by his feelings for Tamar. I certainly didn't agree with what he was doing, but I could understand he was hurting and the only way he could deal with that hurt was to push away the one person he thought was causing the hurt.

Tamar had an unbelievable inner strength. Even though she thought she was broken and she hid behind her walls. She had escaped her ordeal. No matter what else she had done, she had survivied. She couldn't see that until Lyrik. And like two kindred souls, she saw his pain too. Trying to get him to share and let it go. But Lyrik ended up being the stronger of the two. As much as that almost broke her, she knew she couldn't go back to who she was prior to Lyrik turning her world upside down.

This was a truly touching story of forgiveness. For these two, it was about forgiving themselves. Because until that happened, neither one of them was going to ever find their happily ever after.

description

"Do you know what it feels like right before lightning strikes?"

We met Tamar and Lyrik in A Stone in the Sea. This book is their story. The moment Tamar met Lyrik she started acting differently. In the previous books we got to see Tamar as a tough girl who didn't need anything or anyone, especially from guys. Lyrik had been trying to get with her for about a year but was unsuccessful. In the last couple of years Tamar has build a wall around her and nobody has been able to break down those walls.

"He stood out like a fiery bold of electricity. A streak of light and a blanket of dark. So destructive and compelling it was impossible to look away, the boy posed to strike and set you aflame."

However Tamar is intrigued by Lyrik but knows he his bad news. But like many girls there is a time where you can't continue to resist the bad boy. The first quarter of the book there was a lot of hostility between the two. Tamar kept pushing him but at the same time she is jealous and can't stop thinking about him. The moment the two come together is both heartbreaking and beautiful. Both are haunted by their pasts and are struggling to move on from it.

"Loving someone was like volunteering for heartache and sorrow and a lifetime of bullshit."

Lyrik broke my heart a couple of times in this book. He said and did things that were difficult to read. My heart went out to Tamar during these scenes. It was obvious something happened to him, he was still stuck in the past and couldn't move on. He mentioned a couple of times that his heart wasn't his to give. I was really curious what happened to him. We get a couple of small peeks when he is talking to Zee, Ash and Baz, but nothing major. We finally see what happened in one flashback. I did not see it coming. I really felt bad for him and finally understood his behavior. There were also a couple of times he was the perfect guy who was able to bring Tamar out of lonely world she was stuck in. They still have to face their pasts if they want to move on...

"You are everything I never expected. Never anticipated. Everything I never knew I'd need."

I adored the epilogue!! I also loved being reunited with the gang. I really missed Baz, Shea and Kallie. The same goes for Zee and Ash. Ash had me cracking up so many times in this book. He is such an outgoing guy. Zee is the more responsible one. I can't wait to read their stories. Super excited that we get Austin's story first though. I wonder what he has been up to since the last time we saw him.

"That girl was a bundle of fireworks, and I was certain we'd go boom."

AL Jackson did an amazing job with this book. It is very poetic and I adore her writing. She is one of the few authors whose books I automatically one-click. I have read all her books and will continue to do so in the future.

"Dark and light. Corrupt and pure."

"Wild, wicked Red and sweet, beautiful Blue."

"Temptation. That's what you are. An angel wrapped up in a demon's body. Heaven and hell. A gift and my greatest demise."
