This is marked as 8.5 in the series, but would work better as 1.5 since it is Reyes's story up to that point.

CW: child abuse (both physical and sexual), attempted rape, incarceration, and others.

This was just so unnecessary.

I wish I would have read this book after the very first book in the series, because that's where it belongs. On that note, it should be labeled "Charley Davidson, #1.5" not $8.5. Anyway, having read the first eight books in the series, this was just a rehashing of what I already knew. Whatever, it's not going to deter me from continuing with the series.

The first third of the series (encapsulated) from Reyes' point of view. This is not snarky; this is raw and almost never amusing. Well worth the read.

Slightly wordier review: http://jenn.booklikes.com/post/1283890/brighterthanthesun

So this one was interesting, and probably the only book where I didn't dislike Reyes intensely. You kind of get to see his side of things, and it's not just a repeat of every scene in Charley's books.

You get to see the dark life Reyes has led under his abusive father, and the first time he meets Charley as a teenager begins to make a lot more sense. I was initially peeved about him making a rape threat against her, but once you get a glimpse about his background...that rape threat begins to make a lot more sense. It's unfortunately something he is painfully familiar with.

There is a pretty significant spoiler in this book for a future plot point, neatly tucked away. A horrible realization Reyes has about someone very close to Charley that I genuinely did not expect. I am really looking forward to seeing that come up in the next few books.

TLDR: worth a read for sure.

Reyes. Oh Reyes. Your soul.

We get a look into Reyes head and soul in this installment of the Charley Davdison series.

When I started out with this series I wondered sometimes if Reyes isn't too aggressive. Sometimes I was questioning the way he treated Charley. After reading book after book it became clear that Reyes is a barker not a biter when it comes to Charley (he does bite, but lovingly ;) ). In this regard, this book comes a little bit too late for me.

I still enjoyed this a great deal. Reyes will always be Reyes. Le sigh. This novella has a lot of heartbreak yet knowing what brilliant and beautiful man Reyes made this bearable.

A lot better than I thought it would be. I'm not a novella fan. But very interesting look at the years from Reyes' perspective without too much rehash.
