Charlie All Night by Jennifer Crusie

This felt like one of Crusie's lazier efforts—it doesn't have even the same level of banter as her other earlier works, the plotting is limp, and there's almost no character/relationship development. The sex scenes were also, well... a little cringe-inducing, the dialogue especially. It read almost as if she'd written it quite some time before its 1996 publication date, and while I read it through to the end, Charlie All Night didn't really keep me sufficiently entertained to stave off late night work boredom.

Wickedly funny.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was a great book to listen to while driving causing me to laugh out loud and many moments. There were a couple of hot love scenes which were blush worthy if anyone could have heard the story.

The narrator did a great job of distinguishing the comments. Near the beginning when Allie is making a fool of herself trying to 'pick' up Charlie by pretending to be perky, Charlie turns to her and says 'What are you doing?' It absolutely cracked me up.

The romance between Charlie and Allie starts of all heated but there is something more from the get go. It's wonderful seeing them go from lovers to friends and fall deeper and deeper for the other.

This would have been five stars if Allie wasn't such an unreasonable asshat sometimes.

Cute, and had some great parts and delightfully silly, but the second half flies by in a bad way and also keeps the leads apart. It was... weird. The B plot wrapped up completely apart from the action and offscreen. I feel like the book should have been either much shorter or much longer. The super-quick action that is Crusie's style always throws me out of my suspension of disbelief, but I liked the couple here. Picked this up off my library's Honor Backs rack.

I’ll start out by saying that Charlie All Night is no Bet Me. Crusie’s humor is present throughout the book but listening to this book after Bet Me, something just falls short.

This was the best of the 4 Jennifer Cruise books I have read so far,but then it was a bit steamier than the others right from the start :P

3.5* Charlie All Night is definitely fun but a little on the short and underdeveloped side. Charlie and Allie were likable characters and the dialog was humorous, with a few good laugh-out-loud moments. It's similar in feel to Manhunting, although I liked the character development in that one better. Overall a fun, quick read. Recommended.

As good, or better, in audio than print. The narrator for the audible version is quite good. I think this is one of Crusie's most romantic and less cynical books, and one I enjoy very much.

More like 3 1/2 stars. This was surprisingly enjoyable, considering it was old and quite short, neither of which I realized when I put it on hold at the library, and both of which (or at least the short part) probably would have stopped me from bothering to read it. But it was quite fun, and only felt dated (I think it was written in the late '90s) in a few places. And I liked that it was set at a radio station. Could have been a great contemporary romance if it had been longer.
