This was a super cute and quick read. I resonated with the FMC Eliza in many ways and appreciated that she exercised her voice and advocated for change. I liked the illustration of the bonds of friendship and how we can miss out on connection when we judge a book by its cover before we’ve even read any of the pages. I appreciated how the story also highlighted the pressure to be perfect and how it is ok to make mistakes in the discovery of figuring out and finding out who you are. I am finding that this am drawn to YA books because they kind of provide my younger self with a sense of being seen.

2.5*

This book started REALLY strong. The setup made sense, Eliza was an amazing MC, and I was pulling quotes I loved almost every single page. At about 80%, a reveal happened that just kind of ruined everything for me. I felt that given that information, nothing that took place prior made much sense. I also found Len to be a bit of a letdown. I really liked him the whole time, but I was waiting for a moment he was really gonna stand up for Eliza when she was being harrassed, tormented, and bullied by her whole school before his very eyes. When he finally did take some action, I thought it was just too little too late.
Spoiler Especially given the spoiler info, it was baffling to me that she would take him back knowing that not only did he never really defend her, but he caused everyone to harrass her in the first place, only to sit by and watch it all happen.
Quan really spoiled us with a remarkable MC, and unfortunately it was going to take a lot more from Len for me to feel like he deserved her in the slightest. Overall, I'm so sad this ended up being a letdown for me, but I sincerely enjoyed the earlier parts of the book, and would still encourage YA readers to check it out!

I need to read more YA romance. I had so much fun with this book and I loved our two main characters and the conversations this book had regarding sexism and feminism and how society interprets the movement, in both positive and negative ways.
