I love how this was written. The lyrical writing style really worked with the story.
This is a very quick read but it is still very impactful. I really enjoyed the cult setting and the relationships the girls had with each other. I loved having chapters from each of them as well as from them collectively. It makes perfect sense with how their mindset is because of their environment, like a beehive.
I didn't see the twist coming and was really shocked by it first and then it all made perfect sense. The clues and how they pieced the solution together was very interesting. I also liked how this ended.

"Wolfpack" is a novel in verse about nine girls, all raised in a cult. When one of their number unexpectedly goes missing, the remaining eight must find what happened to their pack member, as well as how the secure rules of their sanctuary may have played a part.
I enjoyed "Wolfpack" not as a collection of poetry, but as a thriller. The psychological suspense of what happened to Rose, the missing girl, and how the cult operates is well executed and maintained until the very end of the book. The foreshadowing with the cycle of nature was also extremely effective. I read this in one sitting in one day simply because I wanted to know how the drama would unfold.
What I didn't find so effective was the character cast to keep track of, as well as the verse aspect of this book. I felt that while Brunskill did her best, some characters such as Fern or Ivy came off extremely one-dimensional simply because they didn't get the time to be further fleshed out. I think switching out the verse, which in large part was unnecessary, for prose could have helped with this difficulty.

This book was compulsively readable, it drew me in and I finished it in two sittings on the same day. However, for all that, the conclusion was unsatisfying and the whole story fell flat because of it. (Although, hey! It actually wasn’t the “twist” I thought I could see coming from miles away, so I’ll give it that.)

I liked the format and the ending, though it didn’t really shock me. I also thought that this was going to be about something completely different than it was (tbh I thought it was gonna be about werewolves, not a cult).
It’s fine and it stuck with me, I just wasn’t wild about all the POVs I had to follow. I ended up having to write out notes to help myself distinguish which characters were which.
Edit: Okay, the more I think about it, the less I like the ending, and the review is getting into spoiler territory here so avoid if you don’t want that.
I think the title, build up, and description of the book made me want all the girls to leave the cult by the end of it, not just one of them. It’s obvious throughout that the cult members don’t care about them (were not concerned about girls disappearing, didn’t check on them when one of them was screaming in the night, etc) but the cult seems to be going in a downward spiral with their leader suffering from dementia and one of the possible heirs being a serial killer. I was expecting the girls to come together and decide they could gather the life skills they have learned in the cult and just go be on their own in the woods, like, you know, a wolf pack? But that’s not what happened. I get it, but I was a little disappointed in it.
