Just like the first book, it is equal parts funny and touching. I particularly loved Grant in this book; his antics made me laugh out loud. Patrick’s analogy about remaining members of a nuclear family being survivors of a lost civilization after a death was profound and illustrative. He notes that the children are “afraid of their civilization crumbling further under the weight of advancement,” and calls them “furious little archeologists trying to unearth it with those teeny brushes as fast as the present is busy burying it under more sand.”

I will agree with others that the pacing was a bit uneven and many of the references went over my head, just like in the first book. I do also wish that the trio’s travels lasted longer. But all in all this was a great read.

3.5 stars ... an enjoyable sequel, one that wasn't really needed. Interestingly enough, there is a discussion of sequels (Patrick doesn't want to do any sequels in his acting work). That if there was a HEA in the first, a sequel has to "undo" that to continue the story.

I borrowed the audio and Kindle copy from the library - went primarily with the audio, narrated by the author. I missed Grant's lisp, as this is five years after the first book, and he's mostly outgrown it.

There were LOTS of book/movie references - some very well known (Sound of Music, several fun scenes connecting to that) but others I felt like I knew, but wasn't sure the majority of readers would? Quite a bit of discussion about the [book:The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts|23878688].

The ending was a little too pat/predictable, tied up in a bow.

proFanity x4 ... other words I note: deign, panoply, sneaked, taupe, idiom
