Sparse and clean. How very Scandinavian.

Good detective mystery crime novel. You knew who was going to be charged fairly early on in the book but it was interesting to see how the Detective would put the pieces together. It sort of reminded me of Columbo tossed with a bit of British refinery in which the police respect the citizens, including those who they have to interrogate, and give thought to the lives that have led to the circumstances they find themselves in. Nicely done

This is the 6th in the Inspector Konrad Sejer series. When I first heard about this book I didn't realize it was a part of a series. The book stands nicely on its own. I will definitely read the others in the series now that I know how well Fossum writes.

Wasn't bad. Not as thrilling as I'd hoped it would be though.

A young girl goes missing and Inspector Sejer is assigned the case. Definitely not a high octane thriller but a well written, though with an understated style, tale of suspense set in Norway.

Why have I not heard about Karin Fossum before? What is essentially a police procedural becomes something more in sparing, light prose. Atmospheric and haunting, yet ultimately celebrates the human spirit. Definitely a good thing I had another of hers ready to pick up when I finished this one.
Like the best of Ruth Rendell or Minette Walters
Translated from the Norwegian.

Okay, I'm going to stop reading mysteries set in either Sweden or Norway. Depressing!!! Dread permeates this book like an incoming fog. It almost made me lose my sparkling personality. A study of one child who is missing and two mother's fears of what their children have done. If you read this, be sure to sit in the sun the entire time to remind yourself that the entire earth isn't black and grey. Unfortunately, I read it during Tropical Storm Hanna.
