I love books about books, whether it be about writing them, selling them, reading them, etc. So the idea of a rom-com about two authors who are switching genres sounded right up my alley for a refreshing fun read. I had a lot of fun with Beach Read. It wasn't quite enough to be impossible to put down, but every time I took a break I was looking forward to picking it back up. I'd call it a bit more contemporary romance than rom-com, there were a bunch of light moments but nothing that seemed that funny to me. I wish we got to learn more about the books that Gus and January wrote, the premises of both seemed really interesting. I'd put it at a 1/5 on the spice scale. Overall I thought it was a good palate cleanser read!

This was another fun romance! I liked the main character and reading about her grieving (even though you couldn’t catch me waiting a year to read a letter from my father, idgaf what he did)

After finishing this book, I can’t believe I hesitated to read it... I’m absolutely in love with it! The story feels so emotionally raw and real. There’s some miscommunication, but it gets resolved pretty fast, which makes it all feel very relatable.
I love how January and Augustus meet in the middle of their differences, which end up not being that many. They really protect and care for each other and inspire each other to grow. Gus is so direct about his feelings, even though he’s terrified, while January works hard to manage her anxieties and take his feelings into consideration.
The nuances of January’s relationship with her parents are beautifully written. Dealing with the loss of a great father while discovering he had a secret life is incredibly complex. The letters she finds give some closure, but it’s not neat and tidy, it’s still complicated, and at some point, you just have to accept and let go.
And the tension between January and Gus? Wow! Their chemistry is off the charts—so hot and sensual.
Overall, this book is just beautiful. 10/10, definitely going on my favorites list!
