I enjoyed the premise of the book. Two authors are experiencing writer's block and agree to write a book in the genre of the other author. The plot line wasn't too intricate, but it was a nice summer time book with an expected outc0me. Enjoyable for a "beach read".

It was okay, I was kind of bored at times but I really like the way Emily Henry writes, it was refreshing after my past Colleen Hoover binge. I didn’t really like the title being “beach read” and the description on the back of the book because I don’t think it describes the story that well to be honest. Not much really happened but it was a cute read.

Loved that it was based in michigan and mentioned Grand Rapids!!

Hated that they had sex at such a somber place in New Eden.. felt so wrong and messed up. Kind of got whiplash from how bipolar their feelings were in this book and it was boring at times because the ONLY conflicts were due to lack of communication.

Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast.
For the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.
Until one thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.

Rating: 5/5 stars
This is one of those books that when you finish it, you just have to stare at the wall for a while (in a good way).
That being said, this book singlehandedly made me believe in true love.
The writing style of this novel is addicting, hilarious, and witty. The characters were complex and intricately written, and I loved them so much I wanted to reread this book just as soon as I finished it.
Another part of this book I was impressed with was how it touched on so many deeper issues regarding adulthood, relationships, love, trust, death, and the damages that one's childhood can inflict upon them.
This is one of the best, if not the best, contemporary romance novels I've ever read, and I highly recommend this to everyone.

my girl january really is stronger than the marines 😭

when this book hit, it REALLY hit. and those moments weren't rare but it wasn't a constant thread. the rest, however, was just okay. enjoyed well enough, but nothing outsounding. i went through a bit of a slog in the middle, which def impacted my enjoyment, but that's not the book's fault, i just had other external stuff going on.

i will say this book was so so so romantic. for being so grumpy, gus might be one of theee most romantic male leads i've read. it seems silly to highlight a romance novel for being very romantic, but i find that a lot of romance books lack that sense of true romance for me. i really appreciated that.

i also love that this is single pov - may be an unpopular opinion idk but i really don't like multiple pov books written in the first person. i find that (in het romances especially), the author's never really get the tone of one of the characters right - typically the male lead tbh - and it just brings me out of the story entirely. i liked that we stayed in january's head and got to witness her inner world. despite not ever being in gus' pov, i still feel like he was super fleshed out, and i really believed in him, as a character.

i feel like the last person on this planet to pick up an emily henry book but i'm glad i finally made it here and i will definitely be picking up more of her novels!
