Interesting concept, weird pacing, flat characters. The middle of this book definitely dragged. The last two chapters make this whole book worth it in the end though.

Favourite Quote:
But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.

4.5 stars. This book grew on me. I had absolutely no motivation to read this book. However, I was in the middle of the desert and this was one of three books I had so I didn't really have a choice. I liked this book for a couple of reasons. First, this wasn't just a repeat of Farenheit 451/1984/We. I think there is a stark contrast between those books and this one. The idea behind the 1984 type books is that the government is the power that silences the people. They are stories about how freedom is taken away. BNW on the other hand, is the opposite. It's about when everything is allowed and when freedom is taken to the extreme. Everyone has everything they want in a perfect utopian society. People often compare 1984 to the events going on today, but I believe that BNW is more telling. It warns of people being consumed by technology and losing their identity because of it. Overall a great book that I would definitely recommend.

If you ever feel that you need your life re-affirming, that you no longer appreciate your freedom or if you think life on drugs is better than reality. If you ever need to read real thought - provoking literature, with feeling and controversy and humour... you MUST read Brave New World. I firmly believe that this and 1984 are two of the only books who have made me realise that I'm not alone, they have made me feel the power of literature. They are literary genius. Dystopian novels are an art. And in this world I am both Winston Smith and Bernard Marx. Just less of a sell - out. I am The Savage and the savage is me. We need misery to enjoy our happiness and we have hunger for sadness to appreciate love. An absolutely stunning book.
