Unusual, solid high-fantasy with interesting world-building, great style of writing and sweet romance. Definitely recommended!

DNF at 20%. Ugh. Sorry, but this was not it. The writing and the story was so cliche. I think I mentally checked out when Ellie was described as having a mouth that is too full and red along with eyes too big. And the whole “truemate” thing and the possessiveness of the MMC. I can’t sit through another one of these type of books. Not to mention he is centuries old and she’s a young girl. Nope. Not today. I’m out.

I'm not usually one for either super slow burn romance or slow pace meandering plots, but this worked for me. I do enjoy the Cinderella-fantasy of it all, but there were plenty of other things I liked. The characters (though sometimes a bit one dimensional) are great, including villains and side characters, and I developed strong feelings about each of them. I enjoyed the political machinations even though they do slow the plot to a degree. The burn is slow but natural and gave me enough to satisfy, and I liked their dynamics. Although we're only given a small slice of the world, there were enough details that I felt like there was more beyond the city. It was a nice, cozy read.

“I am not a good man, shei'tani," he corrected. "I never have been. But for you I will strive to be better.”

Okay, Swooooooooning. I am so stoked to have been selected to receive this series in the new covers.
The new covers are GORGEOUS!!! It matches this fierce story so much better.
I adore the characters, the world building is phenomenal and the love story is epic.
I definitely recommend this to all romantasy lovers. I can’t wait to read the next book for more Ellie and Rain.
