Honestly, I picked this up out of nostalgia and because I desperately needed to read something in Dutch again (I've been neglecting my native language). I was not expecting a well-written book dealing with complex emotions and filled with nuanced characters.

The second Fantasy series I delved into.

The story of a young girl who is different in every aspect. Different look, different interests, and most importantly, a different (unknown) origin.

The story starts in a city where Nihal lives with her uncle. As you can expect, things go wrong and she loses everything she knew.
Throughout the story, she learns about the dark ruler of the world and that he is responsible for everything she lost, including her family.

It's a fun book with some exciting twists.
The perfect first chapter of a young girl on her way to become a legendary badass warrior.

Thanks to Netgalley and Open Road Integrated Media for giving me this book to review.

There is no one like Nihal in the tower she lives in, in the Land of the Wind, as she has pointed ears, blue hair and big purple eyes. All she wants to be is a warrior despite there being no female soldiers, which means she must learn to fight from her friends and her weaponsmith father and learn sorcery from her aunt and her best friend Sennar. When a disaster strikes the Land of the Wind by the evil tyrant, Nihal decides she must take action and get revenge on those she has lost with her black crystal sword. Nihal must fight and face difficulties she could not have imagined to complete her dream but will she be the same person at the end?

Nihal of the Land of the Wind is a really good book which is a bit slow to start but really picks up and is descriptive. The story is really interesting and reminds me of Tamora Pierce’s books, as it has action and a strong female lead.

While I enjoyed the story, Nihal really annoyed me as she is selfish and spoiled as she wanted everything her way and did not think of others. However, I really liked Sennar as he was kind, helpful and even when he was very busy, he thought of others, I hope there is more of him in the next book.

I really enjoyed this book and I hope the next book is translated soon as I looking forward to reading it. I would recommend Nihal of the Land of the Wind to people who like Tamora Pierce’s books.

A re-read, but a bit special to me since it was the first novel I ever read in my life, the book that made me love reading 10 years ago. So I was a bit scared... Will I love it as much ? Will I be disappointed ? But I am so glad I finally decided to do this re-read. Not only I liked it, but it echoed even more with me than back then when I was a child. The reading experience was not the same at all, but it was not less valuable ! I remember 10 years ago, it sounded so magical, I loved the adventures, and it made me wanna write my own stories. The magic and the adventures still grab me, but I feel that I now get a better understanding of what is going on. Honestly I was worried the writing style would sound poor to me, but not at all ! It is pretty well written, the character development is very good (and it gets better with the next volumes!). Of course if we want to be realistic, Nihal should not have survived these 400 pages, but I choose not to mind it. It's has been a long time since I last felt this urge to read the next chapter, to grab the next volume ! I am so happy this story still operates its magic on me.

Istyria book blog ~ B's world of enchanted books

Nihal of the Land of the Wind borders somewhere on the line of being Middle Grade book and a Young Adult book. Kind of like Harry Potter. It was like that in the first two or three books of that series too. The main character is 13 years old, she's awesome with a sword so what's not to love about that? It's a quick, fun and easy read. The world in this book is easy to get lost in and I ended up finishing this book in a couple of hours. I do intend to read the next books in the series once they are available in English because I'm curious to see what happens next. I do recommend this to fans of Fantasy, whether it's Middle Grade or Young Adult, doesn't matter. I'm glad I gave it a try because my best friend loves this author. So give it a try! And I love that cover!

This book was quite long to start, but I really tried because I really wanted to read it. At first, I kept thinking about how the written style don’t show emotion. Every death looks pale, without any emotion. Even when the main character is suppose to feel the pain, she looks like nothing. The written style did not give me any feelings.
Until the last 100 page, I was focus on the fact that the main character didn’t learn when she did a mistake, she did not listen, and she kept acting like, she is the best and she is so hurt than ni one can even understand her. It was annoying because she is suppose to evolve as she grow up during the book. But she did not.
The fact that she is describe like a girl who is not suppose to look beautiful, but she is in the end, makes me only think about the fact that « as she has boobs, men like her ».
But when she quit the base, to live a life, I finally s
Tartes to understand her a little, the written style dis not change the missing emotion, but I understand her a little more. The last page makes me think « oh is she finally going to evolve? Dude »
But on the contrary, I wasn’t to much disappointed, and I want to read the next book, maybe this one will be better.

2.5⭐
