Out of the Blue is easily my favorite Kathryn Nolan book so far! I loved the originality of the plot and the topics covered within the books.

Serena is a pro-surfer and after landing the biggest deal of her career, starts to find that not everything is as it appears with the company. During the same time, the company provided Serena with a bodyguard who happens to be her ex-husband, Cope.

Cope and Serena, while having grown up and spent the last four years apart, have realized that they haven't quite moved on emotionally. However, the issues that broke them up are still very present and they are still going around and around in the same fight.

This was a spectacular second chance novel and Serena and Cope's story was amazing to read!

QOTD: Have you ever surfed before?
My A: Nope! I’ve only seen the ocean once, when I was five, and I spent the whole time sticking my fingers in the sand crab holes.
.
Back in November I read and reviewed Katheryn Nolan’s On The Ropes. I really liked it and immediately found another book of hers to read. Out Of The Blue is a second chance romance with a badass female pro surfer, a funny but strong bodyguard, and their secret failed marriage... Oh, and those pesky threatening texts and the guys trailing them home. All super casual. The chemistry! The banter! The female power! The spice! I loved it all and devoured this book in one sitting. A definite must read!
.
BLURB:
There was no way I could protect her and my heart at the same time.
Cope McDaniels is known for two things: His cocky charm and his sterling reputation for keeping high-profile clients safe. Until a security job goes bad, and he suddenly finds his career on thin ice. Cope’s newest assignment comes with serious consequences - he’ll keep his job as long as he makes no mistakes.
Cope isn’t worried…until his new client turns out to be a beautiful blast from his past.

Big wave surfer Serena Swift loves the adrenaline of her sport. And the elite athlete hates being told what to do. That goes double when the orders are coming from the sexy bodyguard-in-a-suit who broke her heart.
But she doesn’t have a choice when a mysterious threat materializes and Serena’s sponsor saddles her with the last man she’d want guarding her body. She’d rather focus on her next surf competition, not on some shadowy danger or the arrogant ex who dared to get even hotter since their breakup.

Cope can’t stop butting heads with his new client. Just like old times, Serena refuses to play it safe, even when it’s clear she’s in peril. Now the intimacy of spending every second of the day by her side is wearing away at his self-control. He can’t afford to lose focus, but everything about the woman is a constant distraction.
Including the fact that their divorce was never finalized…

Oh, I wish this book took longer. Or, rather, I wish, while reading this book, I didn't have to stop reading this book, think for a second, and remember the majority of this book's plot happened over the course of a few days. Which did not feel like enough time for all the things that happened in this book. A lot happened in this book.

And that would have been cool, honestly! All of those things. Second-chance romance! Corporate intrigue! Surfing! The problem was everything was so fast-tracked and some little obnoxious voice in the back of my head was like: this is happening really quickly, isn't it? At some point, about three quarters of the way through, I mumbled, from the corner of my couch, "Hasn't it been, like, three days?" It was, honestly. I am not super familiar (read: not at all) with the way professional surfing competitions happen, so I understand that *that* timeline was dependent on waves and whatnot, but I still wish the whole story had stretched a bit. Gotten a bit of a chance to breathe. Because it felt like we went from zero to sixty real quick, with the business bad guys and the romance being not so second-chance and more currently happening and Serena and Cope pined so well, I just kinda, sorta wished they pined a little more.

Still, Cope and Serena were very good together. Good at bantering. Eventually good at talking. Definitely real good at kissing.

Reconciling story. Really solid back stories for both characters made them believable and you understood their motivations.
