This book is a bitter-sweet ending to Splintered series :) it's both tragic and beautiful.

Really lovely to wrap up the series. Told from Alyssa's POV and her mother.

This companion was a colossal waste of time. Barely anything new was presented and a lot of restating things that were summed up in the last book. The writing was dull, especially the first novella of her parents. I don't feel the story benefitted from these stories. They were exactly what the reader was able to imagine themselves, that's how well they were covered in the 3rd book.
The ending frustrates me bc it is a very Twilight ending. Alyssa has her cake and eats it too. She gets both guys. No one's heart is broken. She gets the best of both worlds, mortal and netherling, living them full and happily. Each guy is understanding of the situation which is odd being that the previous novels show both of them being highly jealous. Alyssa's virginity places a huge role in these stores. She is viriginal for both husbands on their wedding nights (all thanks to her magic). Was this a point that needed to be expressed? Would Morpheus still have her if she was tainted by her marriage to Jeb? Just a frustrating piece of writing.

I'm so sick of this series. I tried to like this, I reallyyy wanted to like this book but the characters are so annoying. It's fantasy and so usually I don't really care if things are realistic. The character's personalities though. It gave me such an ick and the love triangle was stupid. None of the characters made sense and not even in the nice wonderland way, they were just poorly written; like everything else in the series.

The Boy in the Web: 3 stars
The Moth in the Mirror: 1 star
Six Impossible Things: 1 star

Review:

Since this book is a compilation of three shorter stories instead of one story on its own, I’ll just go along and do each one as a section. Cool? Cool.

The Boy in the Web:

I gave this one three stars, and I ended up liking this one the best out of all three. This story wasn’t about Alyssa, Jeb, or Morpheus, rather about Alyssa’s parents, Alison and Thomas/David. Maybe that’s why I ended up liking it the most? Her parents weren’t exactly incredibly more likeable than she was, but I did enjoy getting to see the story a little bit through Alison’s eyes. Maybe I’m jaded on Alyssa, but it was a breath of fresh air.

I enjoyed the past sections more than I did the present ones, however. It was interesting getting to see flashes of who they had been when they were Alyssa’s age and how their relationship and circumstances came to be. The weirdest part about it all was Morpheus showing up, honestly. Like, I knew he’d been around since Alison’s time and even farther back, but it’s weird as hell to think about the fact he was friends with Alyssa’s mom before falling for Alyssa. Kind of gross as hell, actually.

The Moth in the Mirror:

I can’t tell if this one was my least favorite or not. It has to do with Morpehus and Jeb, and we know how much I don’t like either of them. Most of the story itself was about Jeb and his memories, which I guess is how Morpehus and Jeb form some kind of friendship thing like you see in Unhinged, but it was just kind of creepy. Which, granted, is very Morpheus (because he’s creepy as hell at times), but I don’t know. I expected more out of that whole relationship, but in existence and creation, and I got basically scraps of what I wanted.

And, yeah, still didn’t like either of them by the time this little story was through, so. I’m probably jaded there, too. I just don’t like any of our main characters, and, by the end of it all, that unfortunately hadn’t changed.

Six Impossible Things:

I actually started off kind of liking this one? The parts of Alyssa with Jeb and their children was actually kind of cute, even though Alyssa was technically “dying” in one of them. By the end of the story, though, I was full on Absolutely Not Put it Back, Thank You.

Like, okay. I knew that Alyssa gets both the guys (just like another popular story, and, even though I do love that trilogy and its characters, I was disappointed the girl couldn’t just be with both guys in a poly situation, because triangles SUCK and I loved both the male leads and they loved each other, but WHATEVER), but watching it actually happened rubbed me all the wrong ways. And I’m not even sure why it did.

What I do know bothered me, though, was a spoiler that I can’t actually say, but has to do with Morpeus and his life with Alyssa after the fact. I’m sure you know exactly what I’m talking about if you’ve read this. Alyssa really got everything in life, didn’t see? She didn’t sacrifice a goddamn thing, and I think that’s what I always hated the most about the series. It’s just not satisfying for me. (Or, at least, not with Alyssa. Other characters I might say differently. For example: Ronan Lynch? Give that boy the world, he needs it. He’d probably burn it to cinders, but, like. He’s gone through some shit. Give it to him.)

So, there it is. I am almost completely done with this series (I thought I was fully done at the time, but there’s one more novella I can’t get my hands on just yet), and then I’m FREE.

I really didn't think I was going to get this emotional reading [b:Untamed|25105196|Untamed (Splintered, #3.5)|A.G. Howard|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1432662500s/25105196.jpg|44797714], but the Six Impossible Things story was really just a roller-coaster of emotions.

Untamed is split into three stories - The Boy in the Web, The Moth in the Mirror, and Six Impossible Things.

The Boy in the Web is about Alison looking back on her childhood, meeting Morpheus for the first time, and going into Wonderland with the intention of becoming the next Red Queen. This story certainly answers the question of why a girl would give up everything in the human world to be Wonderland's Queen only to ultimately throw it all away once she sees a boy trapped in Sister Two's clutches.

The Moth in the Mirror shows Morpheus trying to learn Jeb's weaknesses through viewing Jeb's lost memories after the events that took place in [b:Splintered|12558285|Splintered (Splintered, #1)|A.G. Howard|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1340134213s/12558285.jpg|17562095]. This story gives a more in-depth look at what happened to Jeb while Morpheus kept him locked away with the sprites. It's a nice and short story and I particularly liked Jeb's interactions with Charlie and Lorina, the dodo bird and the lory from Lewis Carroll's [b:Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass|24213|Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass|Lewis Carroll|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327872220s/24213.jpg|2375385].

The biggest story in Untamed is told through Six Impossible Things. It explores Alyssa's life after the events of [b:Ensnared|22447220|Ensnared (Splintered, #3)|A.G. Howard|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1437455636s/22447220.jpg|26014993] and gives a much more gripping look into the events in the epilogue. It answers the questions of how Alyssa, Jeb, Allison, and Thomas manage to explain their disappearance from the human realm. The story also shows what Alyssa had to do to fake her death before returning to Wonderland after living a long and wonderful human life with Jeb.
SpoilerHer last moments with Jeb is really just the most beautiful scene I've read in this trilogy. I had to put the book down in order to process it all. Even in the following chapters after, Jeb could not be mentioned or alluded to without me having to grab a few tissues.

The ending was absolutely beautiful and fulfilling, but Untamed definitely has a bittersweet ending. [a:A.G. Howard|5186274|A.G. Howard|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1325561918p2/5186274.jpg] manages to fit together so many lovely scenes with the characters from all these books we've come to love. I would love there to be more stories and to be able to return to this Wonderland. There's so much wicked charm in the world that's been created in the Splintered books and I'm finding it difficult to let it all go. Maybe it's just time to return back to the beginning and just re-read the books.

I loved this series so much, and I was so excited to have extra material to read. But this didn’t do it for me. I felt like I wanted to get through it. Never a good sign. I guess I expected more Alyssa and Morpheus. Less everyone else. That was my first let down. But I didn’t love the voice of this book as much as the others either and that was the real problem. I could have gotten in to background stories if they had been told in a more similar voice. But the new voice made me feel disjointed.

"May you forever be young, mad, and free."

I loved this one. If you haven't read the rest of the series, this review is filled with spoilers so I will hideit!

Spoiler It was wonderful to see glimpses into the world that she spent with Jeb. Their life together in her human world sounded just as sweet and perfect as I'd hoped.

But then her world with Morpheus, dangerous and sensual, filled with banter and love, pushing each other to their limits. I loved their little glimpses too. Who knew waiting so long would have been sooooo worth the wait. He was perfect too. The perfect King to her Mad Queen

this was such a wonderful treat and the last 100 pages were such a perfect ending to the series. I loved it!

What can I say? I’m a sobbing hot mess.

After all that angst in the trilogy, this ending was everything I ever wanted for Alyssa and Morpheus. I’m only sad we didn’t get a glimpse of their wedding but it’s okay. The flashbacks we got of theirs was everything!

I REALLY hope the author comes back to Neverland someday. I have an enormous wish list.
