Another great read from Haruki Murakami. He has an amazing way of making you feel so close to his characters, by the end of the book I felt like I could almost read the protagonist's mind and was helping him decide what he should do next. I love all the specific details about music, food, cars, clothing that immerses you in the visual detail of each scene. The story is definitely far-fetched, but it feels almost possible because of his masterful storytelling.
The timing of this book for me was really interesting. I happened to take a painting class (my first ever) the weekend before I started reading, and I spent a lot more time than normal observing some portraits during the class. As it turns out, the main character is a portrait artist, and I could really relate to his process, how he mixed the colors and captured his subject - something I would not understood nearly as well if I had read it a month earlier. It made an already wonderful book that much better.

Too slow paced for me right now. Would love to come back to it when in the right headspace for slower, deeper and more contemplative writing
This was one hell of a ride. Took me a whole month to finish. I had to take longer breaks between the chapters to process everything that was happening. With full honesty, this one is so far my favorite Murakami book. Really an unforgettable one. It’s one of those books that makes your heart ache when you finish it because you’re not ready yet, even though you know that it has to be. You’ve spent so much time in that 600-pages-long World and then suddenly comes the day you have to leave it and you become upset, but at the same time you know very well that it won’t leave you, and that you will be coming back sooner or later, as if revisiting that one place from your childhood memory you’ve been craving to see once again someday in your life, and when that happens it strucks you with utmost happiness.
That’s the kind of book this one is.
