Wonderful, thoughtful, insightful and actionable. I was especially struck by the insight over low self-esteem and self-hatred as a specifically cultural phenomenon, that its not something "inside you" that you can never get rid of - to a Western mind, that is awesomely profound.
As with all other arts, it takes practice and discipline to become proficient, and this book really makes it as simple as it can be to make those steps towards finding happiness and fulfillment in your life, no matter your circumstances. Definitely one worth listening to more than once.

My sister recommended this book to me. It has a lot of good and interesting ideas about being able to control your own happiness.
I found the voice of the author difficult to connect with. I value his motivation but I wasn't able to find myself in his perspective. I think his approach lacked a nuance I was searching for. There was a lot of A+B=C and that straightforward approach might work for some people but it didn't work for me.
This book might be a valuable exploration of happiness for someone else. I didn't find anything offensive or inaccurate. I simply found that it didn't speak to me personally.

The Dali Lama offers timeless wisdom in this book. Great read on the train to the office each day.

I really enjoyed reading about the ideas of the Dalai Lama and the Buddhist principles for the first time. The concept where he is interviewed by an American psychiatrist (Howard Cutler) makes it extra interesting, because this way we get to wonder about how we can implement the principles in the Western society. However, about half way the book it lost my attention. It became a little too repetitive and also at some point Cutler seems to be less critical and mostly stops debating the principles by comparing them to his work and sometimes private life. I still would recommend reading it because it explains so clearly the power of living with compassion and clearing of mind.

This was a lovely read. Admittedly I feel as though the narrator got in the way of the actual message and spirit of the Dalai Lama at times, and that was distracting. I do respect the author for sharing some of his 'embarrassing' moments and showing some vulnerability. I read this book a bit each morning and it really helped me get a good start to the day. I feel more compassionate each day, and have a generally (very slowly) evolving better positive energy.
