Dolly Parton is such a treasure and I enjoyed hearing about the stories behind some of her biggest hits and most meaningful songs. I felt that the book could use more structure - whether chronologically or thematically - so it was sometimes hard to piece together the sequence of her career. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but felt more like sitting down with a relative than a proper memoir.

I downloaded this audible because it was free and Dolly is an interesting person to learn about. However, I didn’t like how the entire story was just quicker clips about each song she has created. I think my favourite thing about her about it was learning about her family, Porter, Jolene and My Heart Will Go On.

I love Dolly and listening to her tell stories, but I was expecting more of a structured biography. This was more of a long interview with music.

Read as an audiobook. I enjoyed listening to Dolly Parton reading her own 'book', although it felt more like a long interview than a cohesive autobiography. I realised I knew more of her music than expected and that a lot of the tunes my grandfather sings are Dolly Parton songs :) The beginning was interesting, where it was a little more about her background and setting up 'The Imagination Library' that provides free books for under 5s around the world.

Who doesn't love Dolly? The audiobook format is definitely the way to go having snippets of Dolly's songs, and having her talk about her own life experience made this enjoyable.

This is legitimately an amazing audiobook. It sounds like someone just interviewing her for a podcast, she's so natural, she's so fun, she delights in everything, and I got the biggest kick out of hearing her talk about her songs and tracking how many times she said one was her favorite. Totally should be listened to, not just read.

Y'all must listen to the audiobook, as it is most enjoyable in Dolly's own voice. While these stories have been told before elsewhere, I enjoyed hearing a compilation of stories about the origins of some of her most legendary songs. This is less an "audiobook" and more like a long-form NPR interview. Any time spent hearing Dolly's stories is a delight so put this on while you're driving, waiting in the car line at your child's school, or while cleaning house for a nice, relaxing, fun listen.

Everyone needs a little Dolly in their life! This book is a "coffee table" book but I listened to the audiobook. I'm pretty sure the audio came from interviews the author did with Dolly which is why you feel like you're listening to a podcast than listening to a book.

Dolly Parton is a treasure. It was fun to hear her tell the backstory of her songs. Bonus points for playing snippets of the songs throughout.

I listened to it on CD, so I didn’t realize it was a coffee table book. It made for a harder listen, since the “chapters” were only a couple minutes long. It was essentially a 5 hour interview - a great interviewer, but long and kind of redundant.

At first I was put off by the Casey Kasem sounding interview style but after about 30 minutes loved it. This should be consumed as an audiobook given the format and there are snippets of songs throughout the book.
