Dolly is a treasure and any time she shares backstories and motivation, I am here for it.
"I just like horny songs."
"I'm not the Dolly Mama, I'm not the Dalai Lama, but I'll try [to give you a little bit of advice."

I would have liked this a whole lot more if it had a stronger through-line to connect maybe some albums, decades, ups and downs, etc. to tie it all back to herself in some single voice or theme. Regardless of how it really just gives a couple notes from her, one song at a time, I can listen to her read even a phonebook all day. (audiobook)
Dolly Parton is a national treasure. She just comes off as such a genuine, down-to-Earth person. In this book she simply tells stories about her songs and her life. She imparts hard earned wisdom she's gained along the way.
I listened to this book and enjoyed the semi-interview style. I loved hearing Dolly talk and loved the snippets of songs. The only issue I had is that I usually listen at 2.5X speed. I would have liked to hear the songs in normal speed, but they were so short and usually only a minute or two apart, and I didn't want to switch speeds so frequently. That's a me issue though.
Overall, it was an entertaining way to spend a few hours and gave me fresh appreciation for Dolly Parton.

A giant retrospective coffee table style book here. Huge glossy photos from through the ages, peppered with insights, background into lyrics, relationships, and other various anecdotes. I flipped through all the pages of the book pretty quickly, then listened to the audio book. I cannot imagine actually reading the book — as having Dolly speak it, in a rambling interview-prompted conversational style, lots of laughter, and songs interwoven, was pretty much perfect.
Really fun listen. I just love Dolly so much and this book made me love her more. It was interesting to learn about her creative process and hear about her life. Only giving 4 stars because there were some times where her commentary was literally just her repeating her song lyrics.
