I enjoyed the book and the creepy ambiance it created.
Yet another reason to dislike mushrooms

One gripe I have is the title Mexican Gothic. Honestly, you wouldn’t know it takes place in Mexico. It could’ve taken place in England or America - the setting of the country/ ethnicity didn’t  play a huge role or could’ve been easily substituted with a different country/race.

Slow burn, that picks up towards the end. Enjoyed the ending, couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed with the main character

This was a weird book. Not sure what I was expecting when I started reading, but yeah, this one was pretty strange. Noemi was a great character, well written and I was rooting for her.

A slow burn, gothic, haunted house horror story which questions the cost of immortality.

Our main character, Noemí, receives a mysterious letter from her cousin begging her to save her. The letter raises more questions than it answers and Noemí finds herself at a derelict mansion inhabited by her cousin’s new husband and his reclusive family.

The book was a little too slowly paced for me, but the story was compelling and the last few chapters were rewarding.

A young lady goes to a distant mansion on the Mexican countryside after receiving a letter from her newlywed cousin that implies there may be something off about her new husband. When she arrives, many things are not right including the mute staff, the fungus infested house and her cousin who is just not herself…

I had high expectations for this book, and this book didn’t meet them. Although the writing was good, I found the overall story to unravel slower than it should have and the conclusion was only meh. I would compare it to the tv series “haunting of hill house” but less of a good story and less entertaining.
