The thing I really love about this book is the ending. It is absolutely perfect. It catches you off guard and for a minute you are angry, but then you think to yourself,"It's different from the usual happily-ever-after bullshit." and I find that truly intriguing. Definitely recommend to any teen girl who likes a little romance.
i have to say although it wasn`t as predictable as i would have thought, one of the main characters was really stuck up and in wasy sure she had a good side but most of the time she said a LOT of superficial things and thats not really the type of character i like to read about. One's whining just because they don't have the prefect dress or even worse:that they cant choose which one of their perfect dresses to wear! Also, i seen the disney version of this movie haha! They made it even worse! The only thing that could have made this book worse would have been if it had a predictable ending, which it didnt, but guess what...the movie did.
I actually watched some part of the movie before reading it and I must say I was pretty surprised at the change of certain events.Example being Josh and Dylan never did get together and that made me fall in love with the book!Totally different and awesome!
I liked the whole set up,characters, like everything! In a way,it portrayed a little about the life of some celebrities. You know like the really private parts.Loved it!
Overall,totally awesome book!!

I actually had the audio version of the book which I will be honest, the narrator, not good. Her voice was hard to listen to and the voice changes she did for the different were terrible. I'm not fond of audio books anyway, they for me, usually take longer.
I actually read this book because I saw the DCOM of it and I enjoyed it. And I think for once in my life I preferred the movie to the book.
Why? Mainly because the characters were less harsh and in your face, especially Dylan, in the movie. Also, Josh was little less paranoid.
Also, the endings differ and I preferred the movie one.

Preface: If you haven't seen the Disney Channel Original Movie based on this novel DO NOT WATCH IT UNTIL AFTER. it will ruin this book for you.
I was intrigued to read this book because I loved Robin Palmers "Once Upon a Kiss". BUT also because I have seen the DCOM I was curious to see how the book related to the movie and vice versa.
Dylan is your typical "Barbie" girl, blonde hair, blue eyes and the most popular girl in school. She is propositioned by Film Gesk Josh to let him use her as a muse for a documentary about what it's like to be popular.
While not a fan at first, Dylan and Josh BOTH learn that what you see is not always what you get. Popular girls can be sweet, vulnerable, silly. Film Geeks can be charming, good looking and great company!
Seeing as how I had the movie playing in my head....I had a hard time separating the book from the movie. However the major events are all there.
After being dumped and discarded, Dylan has to "reinvent" or maybe rediscover herself outside of her popularity. The moral of the story: everyone needs a friend like Josh Rosen.
This book is charming and easy to read. Full of classic teen angst and drama that we all love. However- I realllyyy wanted Dylan and Josh to end up as more than just friends but that's just me.

LOVED this book! i picked it up at the library not knowing what it was gonna be like and i could not put it down. was kinda disappointed with the ending, but i can't change it. the movie was just as good as the book for me, but i wish disney hadn't done it. still loved it though.
I first saw the movie on Netflix a couple of years ago and I just really adored it so when I saw the movie was based on a book I thought I'd give it a try. Okay so first of all, THAT ending, I was like 'Woah woah wait. Back up, what?' She doesn't end up with Josh? PLOT TWIST. I have to admit I'm a bit iffy about it because, I mean obviously I went into this book expecting them to get together and live happily ever after. I mean are they not the most adorable couple ever? But then again I love how it's about friendship and not the whole clique 'popular and geek fall in love' thing.
I must say this book reminded me of the fairy tale, the frog prince, where this princess drops her golden ball into the pond and she promises a frog company in exchange for it. So the frog gets it for her and she runs off and tries to back down from their deal but her dad makes her keep her promise and yeah. This book gave me that same vibe.
I do think that Dylan was a bit more realistic in this book than in the movie but at the same time she's also portrayed a bit more shallow as well. Her dad is less present and I don't think we really touch her mom's death in the book as much as we did in the movie. She's not really as academic either, in the movie we see her hidden smarts and how she's actually really smart but in the book she's a bit more realistic. She doesn't really know much of everything which is actually really common in real life and she has real life fears like 'What if the only thing I'm good at is shopping?' Josh is definitely more of a geek in this book, in the movie he's a geek but he's a geek who isn't afraid to voice his opinion but on here he has all these allergies and medical things and he just gives off this really 'fragile' vibe I guess. One thing I absolutely adored was the popularity aspect of it. In the movie Hannah and Lola are seen as 'the side friends' but in the book they're all seen as equals to a certain degree and they aren't afraid to voice their opinion or tell Dylan when she's wrong. They're more realistic in the sense where they still hang out with Steven and Ari and tell Dylan to hang out more with Josh instead of the typical 'You can't hang out with him because he's unpopular' which does happen but isn't as common as the movie.
I think this book was hilarious and a bit dramatic at times but it still kept it's realistic level. It was absolutely adorable and yes the friendship was cute but it has it's own Disney movie so it has a right to be cheesy meaning it's completely understandable for me to say that I wanted them to end up together. Okay they should've ended up together, I don't care how cheesy and overused it sounds, Dylan and Josh should have ended up together. Besides that, the book was pretty great.

3.5 cute story but I didn't care for Dylan much for most of the book that being said she was a typical popular rich girl. I liked Josh. Dylan's character did grow though and she became more likable. I liked the book and would probably read another one by this author.
Forgot how this book was ngl, but the disney channel movie they made after it is fire! Wouldn’t recommend reading cause it’s pretty boring.
Geek Charming is an amazing breezy summer read that starts as a cliche story about a popular girl and a geeky guy. It is anything but that. Geek-Boy, aka, Josh, wants to be a film director/producer/whatever. And after helping Popular Girl, aka, Dylan, get back her wet purse from a fountain, they make a deal. The deal is that Josh can film Dylan and her friends so that he can make a not-so-cliche documentary about popularity from the inside, to get into the university he wants.
That's basically the plot. At times I felt it was a bit slow, given that I have already seen the movie, and it saddens me to say, the movie is way better. Sure a lot of stuff got cut out of the film, but some of those parts weren't vital to story, it just added time so it wouldn't seem all rushed in like a week or something.
So yeah, great read, and an amazing movie to accompany it with, I'm thinking I'm gonna watch it again soon.
