Late to the party, as usual! I read Greer’s IWAS (loved it) first and expected much the same muchness from Kingdom as I got there. And that rang true for maybe the first 70%ish. This goes darker than IWAS, the CNC scene most notably, I was here for it, speak that truth! However that last 20% had me conflicted. Still does.

Without giving away spoilers because I won’t be that person and this should be a blind read: there’s a fundamental foundation for “the lifestyle” that is so deeply rooted in trust there’s nothing that’s not tainted with it. The third act plot twist defies that trust, spits in the face of it, yet there’s forgiveness given in such a loose, almost easy way. Alina monologues earlier in the book that “when you have love, you should also have forgiveness” but the level of deception he perpetuates past and present, just doesn’t sit well with me. I guess it’s jarring really, Greer makes you fall in love with the MMC, he really depicts something that could represent the ideal in a S male. Then he goes and does some seriously shonky shit. Is there a HEA? Yes. Do I think he deserved one? Undecided. What I can say for certain is that this had me gripped, it made me FEEL, it had me screaming and viscerally furious and earns that 5th star for its efforts. It’s becoming apparent that this deeper rooted writing forcing the reader to think seems to be Greer’s style. I had a similar experience with IWAS (just not as intense) This book makes you critically think, while it also represents and identifies. Absolute must-read for the brave hearted.

“To me, it’s simple. I’m a kinky girl, and I want Nas to show me all about the kink and BDSM world while allowing me to give in to my darkness. I want him to teach me to not be afraid or ashamed of it. It’s more than just the books now. It’s his mind that fascinates me.”

Alina is obsessed with author Nathan Booker who writes kinky BDSM novels. When her friends surprise her VIP tickets to a meet and greet, all bets are off.
These two have chemistry from the moment they meet.

Who wouldn’t want to go on a date with their favorite author who happens to write exactly what turns you on the most?!

Nathan unlocks Alina’s most darkest and inner kinks that she was always ashamed of and was shamed for by her ex boyfriend. But through a consensual agreement, role play, and understanding of a D/S lifestyle, these two open up a door of sadism and masochism together. And the sex is

I saw the author on BookTok trying to make his case as a male romance writer and I thought I’d give it a shot. One chance. Well, Mister Greer. You’ve got yourself a new super fan! Nas is so hot. Like mega hot. Like take me now Daddy. Anyway, let me wipe that drool away. The D/s dynamic was handled so well and I love how the author took time to really explain the real concept of a Dom. Not just the naughty bits, but caring for his sub in every piece of her life. It’s brilliant and beautiful and painfully sexy

Ok so up front, I’m going to mention major spoilers. Like seriously, do not read this review of you don’t want to know major plot twists and how the book ends. Still here? Ok, here goes. I struggled with how many stars to give this book. Overall, I really liked the book. This book stayed with me. I kept thinking about over and over. The problem is that I wasn’t thinking about how much I liked it, I was thinking about how much it bothered me that Nas never faced any real consequences for his betrayals. Like not only because he claims to write works of fiction but then turns and writes about the women he’s with, to the point he doesn’t even bother to change their names, jobs, identities in any way, thus completely outing them to anyone who knows them. But he also completely betrays the D/S relationship and dynamic. The trust that is required between the two partners. And by using the women as he does, he violates that in such a fundamental manner. But he *never* faces consequences. In the end, Alina forgives him, gives him her trust again, and he has another best seller. In the end he gets a HEA, but there’s no redemption process for him. And that really bothered me. I felt like there needed to be more. Another book or something. But to get from the moment where Alina learns what Nas has done to his previous partners and was going to do to her, then to the moment where she actually forgives him, gets back with him, and accepts his collar… there needed to be something more that Nas has to face. Because as great as the book was written, it still left me with a Fifty-Shades-let-down-feeling when it comes to how the D/S relationship was handled.

This book was different from any other romance book I have read. I liked the main characters and the story was really good. If you like to read about BDSM, D/s dynamic etc then you will like this book.
