Well. That certainly was some letters written down in a way that formed a story of some sort.

well this book was...interesting. not stellar, not awful, just...interesting

I explained it over the phone to a friend as "if the movie everything, everywhere, all at once was a book but it was purely just the crazy shenanigans, only had white main characters, and had none of the mother-daughter relationship growth" n after finishing it, im sticking with that explanation

I actually really liked Caroline, she did what she had to do n then got all of her answers by the end of the book in a pretty clear n concise way. God is truly a woman 🫡

I'm giving this book a 4 purely because there was a bit too much gratuitous violence n too many casual mentions of SA/r*pe which is fitting for the story being told but I still was like ew, we're skipping ahead. also i was confused for over HALF of this book. I understand a book having a confusing plot that then makes sense like halfway through the book but godDAMN i was basically 80-85% done with the book before things started to make sense n even after that I was still a little like "okay but like why would we do it this way?" but maybe I had so much confusion because this book wasn't trying to really make sense until the very end

Well-written but for me, too horrific.  Lots of mental and physical abuse.

This was such a weird, violent, and gritty book. I couldn’t put it down, and I think I will be mulling this one over for a long time.

one thing I struggled with was how quickly Father exited the storyline and was resolved of being a horrible figure. Torturing the Librarians was absolutely brutal and I kind of wanted carolyn to continue hating Father, or at least regretting the choices he made, regardless of the overall “master plan” that this supported. It seemed like the abuse Carolyn faced was the catalyst to the entire storyline, and I wanted to see her grapple with this a little more before everything smoothed out

I don't know what I just read, but it was weird - and not a good weird. Very gruesome and violent throughout; you hope it might get better but it just gets weirder and weirder.

Oh my gosh, where to even start? I think I loved this book.

To begin, we follow Carolyn and a few others, as they learn under "Father". He is teaching them each one of his 12 "catalogs" (war, animals, languages, etc.), and they may not study anything outside of their own.

For lack of better words, Father is their god. Now then, would would happen if god disappeared?

This story kind of has the vibe of an adult version of the scenes in Stranger Things, with Eleven and the other kids, and Papa.

This book is incredibly written. It's horrifying, darkly funny, and absolutely heartbreaking.

I think this story is about how no matter how much time you take to heal, trauma changes you, in ways that cannot be undone.

"She knew every word that had ever been spoken, but she could think of nothing to say that might ease his grief."

"Peace of mind is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it."
