The book accomplished one goal for me — it helped me expand my sense of “we” to include Liz Cheney because we share some important things. And not reduce her to a “they” whose political agenda I don’t share. I think if there’s a way out of this polarized mess we’ve gotten into it has to include that.

So. Liz and I both believe in rule of law. We both don’t want violence in upcoming elections or governance. We both believe that telling truth is essential to finding a way forward. We value democracy and believe it’s worth sacrificing for.

I appreciated her detailed account of what she learned when and how she responded. What worked and what surprised her (repeatedly) when it didn’t.

I am disappointed she didn’t take the opportunity to describe cross-party collaboration. (Maybe there wasn’t as much as it looked like had to go into those orchestrated, powerful hearings?). To hear her tell it she and her husband Phil basically did all the thinking and the Dems were astute enough to support their ideas. Also she seems to believe her Republican colleagues began behaving irrationally on Jan 7. Who voted Trump for years,Liz? He didn’t just become a different man after the election. But the only thing she seems to hold against him is the Lie that is completely in character with his previous behavior. All right I still have some ways to go being a respectful “we” with her and not wanting to rant.

Glad I read it.

This book wrecked me emotionally! I am so utterly grateful for Liz Cheney and the work she has done. Every word in this book is important. I wish I could buy a case of this book and hand it out to absolutely everyone. But sadly, I know there would be people who wouldn't listen to any of these words. I am dumbfounded by this. My heart is broken for America. How did we come to this?

Really interesting (and scary) account and stories from January 6th...

Even if you're not a Political Science major, Cheney makes her memoir easy to understand. I found her story engaging and thought provoking, definetly changing my perspective on some things and reaffirming it on others. There is a powerful message in this book, and I would reccomend it to any American, especially as we approach the upcoming 2024 election

This should be required reading for all Americans. Liz Cheney does an excellent job outlining the events leading up to and on January 6, 2021. I am so angry that Trump is the republican candidate for 2024 I can’t understand how this is happening. WTF   I listened to the audio version and Liz did a great job. Don’t listen to negative reviews. There are also a lot of audio clips from other people that make the audio version a must.

I may hold incredibly different views than Cheney but her love of country and dedication to its principles is inspiring. This harrowing account of Jan 6th should be required reading to ensure that events like this will never happen again. A raw and emotional story of bravery, sacrifice, and honor. A fitting title and a message we all should heed.
